This is just one aspect of why the Trump presidency is so good for America. It is fantastic knowing that it i likely the 2A will be protected for years to come. Now if Ginsberg would just retire too...

Threats against the 2A are entirely imaginary. Gun grabbers are a boogieman, like reefer madness.

Kavanaugh's rulings will likely serve to reinforce the supremacy of wealth over democracy & all that means. We'll get more of the old failed trickle down ideology as policy.

Remember reading about that time the Supreme Court shoved the country down the path to the civil war? I do.

The same thing could easily happen just over economics once anybody who isn’t wealthy finally realizes/decides they’ve been had.

Twitter, Facebook and Google can. Why not ISPs as well?
Those are not ISPs, they are platforms you choose to visit. You don't have to use Facebook, Twitter, or Google to get to the internet. But if ISPs have a first amendment right to filter your speech, then certainly Google, Facebook, and Twitter have a first amendment right to shut down conservatives. But is that the path you want to go down? Because that's the path Kavanaugh is taking this country.

Perhaps we should all step back and take a deep breath over the confirmation of Justice Kavanaugh. Sen Collins, in her floor speech yesterday, provided this interesting contrast:

"That Judge Kavanaugh is more of a centrist than some of his critics maintain is reflected in the fact that he and Chief Judge Merrick Garland voted the same way in 93 percent of the cases that they heard together. Indeed, Chief Judge Garland joined in more than 96 percent of the majority opinions authored by Judge Kavanaugh, dissenting only once."

This is very misleading by Collins, almost certainly on purpose. The vast majority of cases are uncontroversial, so judicial agreement is common. As I mentioned before Elana Kannan and Clarence Fucking Thomas agree almost two-thirds of the time.

Law is made at the margins and so the percentage agreement is functionally meaningless. Collins is trying to snow us and dupe you into thinking otherwise.

And of course when it comes to really important things like gerrymandering, campaign finance, etc., the conservative justices band together to aid the party they favor. We saw a blatant example of that with Bush v. Gore.

100% this. Anyone who bought her arguments that a conservative jurist with a long record of said conservatism won’t vote conservatively is entirely delusional. It’s why he was nominated in the first place. She should at least have had the respect not to try snowing everyone under about the rationale.

I think Democrats did what they needed to do on Kavanaugh, and that's finally take the veneer of respectability off the SCOTUS. This paves the political way for much needed future reforms (packing). Forget impeachment, 67 is not going to happen, but 50+1 is enough to gut the legislative filibuster and pass legislation to reform the court.

I keep seeing people say "he lied" and others asking what are the lies. So I picked a couple of sites that list "the lies" and their analysis. The first is WaPo, the second is HuffPo. HuffPo is more aggressive which is no surprise and some of their reasoning seems speculative. Some of the "lies" overlap.

I know that the voting is over but some of this is still relevant.

On a different note I'm working on leads that indicate the Flake elevator encounter was staged. Stay tuned.

Even the "lies" or "perjury" that is often claimed by leftists isn't even repeated or mentioned in some of the stories. Even the story that fskimospy linked from the Post doesn't make the claim, only that he might have "mislead", No mention of perjury.

Meh, what's done is done. Repubs got theirs in their usual underhanded swamp pus infected way so it's nothing out of the ordinary for them. The behavior of McConnell, his crew and that DINO of theirs showed their true colors these past couple of weeks and they spent a whole lot of political capital in the process.

See you in November Pubbies!

They didn't. The Republicans successfully stonewalled the bigger issues by refusing to disclose Kavanaugh's record. In the face of the impossibility of getting access to Kavanaugh's legal writings, the Dems used what they had. Based on what has been released about Kavanaugh we can conclude that he supports torture and war crimes. The level of his depravity is unknown but given the Republican fear of his writings being daylighted, it must be deep indeed.

Congratulations to the fascists, you got your boy. Enjoy.
This is the sort of emotional foolishness I was talking about. No rational thought, no real information, just hyperbole and nonsense.
You're not stupid, but you're allowing your emotions to run wild. This is mob mentality, it's seeing the herd bolt and running without knowing why, but convinced it's life or death.

What emotion? These are facts. The Republicans hid Kavanaugh's past conduct from the Senators tasked to evaluate that conduct. Where are the 100K pages of documents the Senators asked for months ago?

To many it is life or death. Imagine if Kavanaugh was on the court at the time of the Obergefell case. Or imagine that he will make decisions in regards to gerrymander laws, adoption and employment benefit laws involving same sex couples, affirmative action, workplace protections, etc etc To many these are indeed life or death issues.

I personally am not overreacting. My gut tells me people celebrating this nomination should be careful what they wish for.

We can both agree that Kavanaugh perjured himself multiple times, right?

If so, what is the misunderstanding? He should not have been confirmed and should probably be disbarred. This is pure tribalism.

I genuinely don’t understand the defenses of Kavanaugh. It’s not like he tried to be coy, he blatantly lied under oath a whole bunch.

What other than tribalism explains suppprt for this guy?

You failed to stop him based on qualifications, you failed to stop him with spurious, unfounded allegations and you continue the litany with supposed perjury (lies). Methinks you should get some rest and save that anger for Judge Amy Barrett when she is the next nominee.

The Reps have spent the afternoon completely rewriting the narrative. By Monday, Kavanaugh will be back to being a choir boy who hates beer.
