The entire country won, not just me and not just Republicans. We won a chance to get away from progressive judicial activists making decisions they have no right to make. We returned power to the legislature and the President while reducing it to bureaucrats and fringe activists.

Pure pablum. Judicial activism? The most recent example of that is how a conservative Court expanded a very narrow pleading in Citizens United to declare that money is free speech & that corporations are people. That's judicial activism.

Perhaps you'd care to explain exactly what powers a conservative court will return to the Presidency & Congress. I mean, you know, other than simply making a Trumpian proclamation that it's being done.

That's obvious. The SC could potentially be in the minority's grasp for a generation. I also have a feeling the turtle's insight is that the Democrats won't want to fight fire with fire.

I think McConnell has badly misjudged that. What he's done is use power to implement a highly partisan & unpopular agenda. Democrats can now expand upon that to implement popular & effective policy w/o regard to the niceties he set aside. We just need to win it all to do it, starting this election & on in to 2020.

Somebody turn off the bubble machine. I just found myself wondering if Collins was able to vote for Kavanaugh because she is dying of cancer and doesn't know it yet but knows unconsciously she won't life long enough to face how wrong her assessment of him really was.

So much this.

I'm noticing a lot of quiet rage over this guy though, quiet incredulous rage. Women in particular (disclaimer: all in New England) This might be the nitrous to the block the Dems need for November. The republicans can say they're energized again all they want, I'm happy to say I don't think it's going to save them. Collins rolling over with 43 minutes of gas lit talking points, managing to not mention temperament once - I get the impression from some of the ladies that was like salt in the wound.

Once again, kudos to Murkowski on her Thatchers.
Hard to say. All the major media outlets are publishing articles trying to spin the outcome as being indicative of something. The Democrats will get the boost they need to take the House, the GOP will get the boost they need to hold the Senate. In the meantime, Kavanaugh appointed four female clerks as he said he would, the first justice to do so, and his first day in the role was met with minimum protests or fanfare.

You mean an accused sexual assaulter hires women to surround him with? Color me surprised!

Or was your point that someone who has hired women certainly couldn't be guilty of sexual assault?

Let me know what your point was because I might have a bridge to sell.

Not judicial activists, "progressive judicial activists" Do you see the difference?

Yes, this one.

And last I checked.. judges are incredibly corrupt.. just take any family court.. they ignore evidence and just decide cases on whims. I thought SCOTUS would have a higher bar but nope.. more of the same.

LOL. And you know this how? Do you watch court TV 24/7 while you’re posting in ATPN?

This has already been gone over repeatedly.

Let’s start here. By all means tell me how his story is even remotely plausible.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2018/09/20/brett-kavanaughs-unlikely-story-about-democrats-stolen-documents/

So now we are going on an Opinion of someone making guesses with no actual facts or proof.

From your link:

"Miranda, now a lawyer in private practice in Maryland, did not respond to our request for comment. He previously told The Washington Post that he never told Kavanaugh he was sharing stolen information. [Update: Miranda noted that he was not prosecuted for these events and sent us a law review article with his side of the story.]

I never told him that I got this from the Democrats,” Miranda said. “There was never anything like that.”"

Harry Reid did it, now Mitch has followed suit so when and if the democrats get back in power they are going to blow it up some more.

Is that what you are saying?

Mitch McConnell blocked Obama's judicial nominees so Harry Reid did it, now Mitch has followed suit so when and if the democrats get back in power they are going to blow it up some more because Mitch threatened to block all SC nominees until 2020 if Hillary had won

Is that what you are saying?

Lol, I dunno if that's a good thing....just say that out loud keeping in mind the context of recent events.

The entire piece is filled with facts. Do you know what facts are???

Thank you for bolding the part where a suspect doesn’t come right out and confess to a crime. This is like bolding where a bank robbery suspect says he didn’t do it. The facts listed in the article make his denial and Kavanaugh’s denials preposterous and any objective person knows it.

My point is that the world and the conversation is moving forward. The hail mary pass didn’t work and we’re at least one hundred pages into blaming the referee.

Can you build the bridge out of Kavanaugh? I want to see if he’s made of wood.

Ah yes the Monty python witch bit. But bridges are not the only thing you can make with wood. Can you not also pitch a tent with wood? And who just hired 4 women all between the ages of 18 and 62 and half?

So if he pitches a tent (drinking game) he’s made of wood and therefore? (No. Not Bill Clinton)

McConnell extended the simple majority vote rule to the SCOTUS, not Reid. That was a major escalation, not tit for tat. Right after he stuffed Garland's nomination. Right after 8 years of outright obstructionism. McConnell also took full advantage of the rule change wrt lower court nominees, as was his due. That was what the GOP wanted as far back as 2005.

The way I see it, Dems will necessarily be forced to escalate beyond that when we get power if we're to preserve middle class prosperity, egalitarian democracy & common decency in the way we deal with each other. FYGM is no way to run a first world country yet remains the GOP ideal. What they crave is a distribution of income, wealth & power like we had 120 years ago.
