You are never innocent until proven guilty during confirmation for a federal appointment. You don’t appear to know how the constitution works. Next time Republicans should vet their nominees better. Hell even without this accusation he appears to have lied to the senate repeatedly and perjured himself.

The real question we should be addressing is whether or not to impeach him in his current position, not if to give him a new one.

That will be an open question until the Dems take over, when I believe a lot of people will be held to account. Nunes would be my first pick from Congress and the revelation and investigation of all the Republicans obstructed and buried while they held power.

This isn't a can of worms, it's the friggin Dead Sea of Political Skeletons rising up.

I strongly agree Nunes should be investigated for possible obstruction of justice. I can’t think of many (any?) other legislators who have earned that indignity.

All I know is that the next democratic president is going to be taking ownership of what amounts to a toxic waste site when it comes to this executive branch. Like you I hope they hold people accountable.

I half-expect many of the most loyal Trumpists to flee to countries without US extradition treaties. It feels like many of them just assumed they were signing up for an eternal Republican dictatorship and were shocked, shocked that they might not have complete control of both Congress and the presidency for more than a couple of years. "You mean I can't be a craven, corrupt slave to Trump forever?"

Orrin Hatch talked to Kavanaugh and says that he is "honest and straightforward" and that Ford might be "mixed up".

Amazing insight from the dude that called Rob Porter a decent man and lambasted the press for even reporting on the allegation against him. Also that the Roy Moore allegations were from "decades ago".

Going well so far guys.

A bit rich coming from a supporter of a party that obstructed the Garland nomination purely out of spite, without any particularly good reason. Mind you, we know you're just fine with sexual assault since you support Trump...

Also, isn't the whole point of a delay to investigate the legitimacy of the claims before rushing him through? Stall tactics or not, shoving a candidate through the door when there are lingering claims generally isn't a good idea.
"SJW's will convict you out of hand."

Took you about 20 seconds to prove his point.

You can't vet against false accusations.

Of course you can. Just think of the sheer quantity of false accusations were leveled at Clinton. If you don’t think they were ready for them when she was nominated for SoS you’re a fool. Also, there’s no particular reason to believe they are false.

I’m still waiting for your apology for repeatedly lying earlier. Any ETA on that? Alternatively a pledge to try and be less dishonest going forward would be good too.

Kavanaugh's statement this morning had Raj Shah's name on the byline...so I assume he's meeting with WH communications and press staff to prep a joint communications strategy fighting the accusation. Basically, they're going full Trump on this...

LOL good luck with that.

You see, I was wrong. The TrumpTards CAN dig their heels in even deeper... I am impressed.

So fat though, so old... So beta...

How much longer can gramps yelling at the clouds hold out? When you are THIS much invested in your LIES there is no turning back. Nope. Just going to be a lot more yelling. A lot more tirades. And of course more LIES to come. Facts are like kryptonite to a POS like this one.

The truth is not their friend...

When did she first report this? Sounds like years ago. Amazingly premonitious of her to discuss this with others years before he was nominated to the SC.

Makes sense why Rs had a "supported by 65 women" letter in their back pocket. They knew of it too, nominated him anyway, and prepared to bulldozer the nomination over any opposition.

Question is why?

Why choose this guy with this baggage? Why have to hide so many documents? Why accept his continual lies to Congress? So many questions need to be answered.

Hold your breath. I have nothing to apologize to you for except to not call you an asshole as often as you deserve it.

Because they're trying to stealth a right wing ideologue onto the court. They want Kavanaugh desperately. He's been groomed, indoctrinated & positioned for a very long time. He'll protect the privileges of Wealth for decades.

Hey, here's the thing: we have plenty of shady behavior on Trump's part to back up claims against him. Ivana accused Trump of rape; at least 15 women from various walks of life have accused Trump of sexual assault; and of course, Trump himself bragged about having the power to grope women in that infamous audio recording. (This isn't even including character-related concerns like his numerous extramarital affairs.) This is much like Bill Cosby -- how many women and on-the-record statements does it take before you finally take the allegations seriously?

I'm not saying Kavanaugh is guilty for certain, but for goodness' sake, at least allow some kind of investigation before you ram him through the door. You shouldn't blindly grant a lifetime appointment to someone who may have committed assault, especially not someone already shown to be dishonest.

Even at that, I assume they have a stable of them waiting for their chance.

I'm wondering, out of that pool, why him?

A. Did they not vet him well? (yet they seem prepared for this coming up...)

B. They knew, but:
1. Not care? (have some overriding reason)
2. Not appreciate the backlash? (poor judgement)

Early signs point to B, but what was the thought process? We seem left with either incompetence or conspiracy.

Well the orange one is on record now.

His response amounted to “they should have brought this up sooner but we will go through a process but they should have mentioned this sooner but we will follow a process but I can’t believe they didn’t mention this sooner but we will go through a process”.... repeat repeat repeat.

They did vet him well or at least well enough to know that his confirmation could be a problem. McConnell explicitly warned Trump against nominating him but he did it anyway. The first thing we should admit is that the Republicans are ONLY going to nominate right wing ideologues. No matter what justice they eventually seat you can bet your ass he will be ultra, ultra right wing. It's not what the country wants, but it's what their base and donors want, so that's what will happen.

As for why Trump nominated him in spite of that the most obvious reason is he thinks Kavanaugh will protect him from corruption investigations as Kavanaugh is on the record expressing pretty serious skepticism at subpoenaing or indicting presidents. If plenty of the candidates fit the 'extreme right wing' mold, why choose the only one who might be hard to confirm? Is there even much evidence that Trump cares about judicial ideology anyway? Nope. The simplest answer is the most likely one - Trump is corrupt and wants public officials who will enable his corruption.

Yup. Suspicious AF.

Bush nominating Harriet Mayes was option "B.1". Facing backlash, she was withdrawn.

If Rs push forward this time... Have to ask why. Why not cut bait and find someone else.

Anything that makes Trump look like a "loser" will not be tolerated by the White House. While I'm sure GOP Congress would be happy to pick any alternative Heritage/Federalist approved judge, Trump is personally invested in Kavanaugh and will not let it go. He wants his pick to win.
