The courts don’t make law. They can only rule on existing law. If the conservatives have the courts, that is just one of many checks and balances.

Throwing a fit doesn’t change that.
we have a common law history going back 1000 years in this country. this isn't a civil law (i.e. napoleonic code) country (other than louisiana).

you'd think we'd be used to the idea that courts make law, because they absolutely do, and have for a millenium.

Well McConnell went on the floor and (between complaining about the inconvenience of the allegations) committed to a confirmation vote "very soon". Emphatic that Kavanaugh will receive a vote one way or the other. I don't think he has the votes yet but is throwing down anyway. It could be theatre for the base or for real, we'll see.

Better be by sun down or Ann's followers won't vote GOP anymore.

In light of recent things - I've been contemplating voting left this year - and likely in 2020.

But you know what turns me off the most? Everytime one of your stupid fucktard candidates says the word "free". Saying that alone is a damnation to your own voters hoping that they are too incompetent to understand that nothing is free in life.

There is no free healthcare, there is no free abortion, there is no free college. It doesn't exist - and more importantly - it CANNOT exist. Try treating your voters with a higher IQ than a pencil and you might have better luck in elections.

Duh-vert more.

And dodge away. Meanwhile, your fellow democratic socialists take a whole different POV- nationwide access to free abortion-

https://www.dsausa.org/news/dsaers_strike_down_barriers_to_reproductive_justice/
That is relevant because? I don't support revoking RvW but do support sex ed programs and free contraception to limit the need for abortion. In today’s day and age with the contraception options available to men and women, abortion should be a relic of the past or very limited in its use.

These hearing have been, and continue to be a complete joke. The Republicans have their man, and that's all there is too it. The hearings are for show.

You've been defending the GOP all along in their effort to stack the Court to overturn Roe, which is clearly their intent. But you don't support overturning Roe. Oh, and you're really a democratic socialist who supports free abortion for women who can't afford them.

You've outed yourself as a fifth columnist.

Stand by your man...last minute ploy to the Fox rubes to keep their support.

I'm guessing that there aren't many (any?) undecided Fox viewers on this. It's going to be a total softball interview anyway, basically an infomercial. If they wanted some kind of real news they'd have used Chris Wallace.

This interview has an intended audience of 1.

Looks more like Trump and Shine brainstorming then coming up with the brilliant plan to have Kavanaugh defend himself on the friendliest outlet they've got. I just think it's pointless and risks propelling one of Kavanaugh's accusers into a media appearance that would be more diversely/widely consumed and thus more damaging.

I heard some interviews with people from fly over country. They are definitely captured in this cult of personality, no hope of ever reaching them, unless Trump was caught in flagrante delicto with Ivanka. They would then rationalize it, that none of it matters because they are getting what they want from his presidency.

Evangelicals and social conservatives are certainly happy with their Faustian bargain, no doubt.

Mmmm I love those sweet sweet liberal tear drops as you act on emotions and empathy rather than logic and reason. I'm telling you how to treat your voters with even an ounce of self-respect and dignity and you just might learn how to win elections. But keep on losing elections and proclaiming "Dur hur it's becuz dey r all dumb!" In the end you're just fucking yourself.

So is GOP now going to put an accused rapist on the Supreme Court? Not a good look for them.

You're the second progressive that's lied about this today. Are you stupid or just ignorant of the actually accusation leveled by Dr. Ford? My bet is you're both.

Guys Taj thinks its very important to make the distinction that he's only accused of TRYING to rape someone, not that he succeeded.

Makes perfect sense to me, an accused rapist on SCOTUS? Hell no! Someone who only tried to rape a person and then failed? Sure, why not!

The New York Times tried to, but could not corroborate Ms. Ramirez's alegation and have declined to run it, the same for the porn lawyers story. The co-author of the Ramirez story said they could not get a single firsthand account to corroborate the Ramirez account.

Misrepresents the situation somewhat. NYT just got beat really.
