An investigation seems silly, no true bottom line can be found. One person saying it happened, she's sure it was him that can't say who payed for her polygraph vs. a person with a feckless record and a friend that was at the supposed incident and says he has no recollection of such an event happening. Their isn't something here to investigate, there isn't a smoking gun piece of evidence. This isn't a trial, either. To me this is an obvious smear campaign to delay things.
But, it is interesting to see the Dems today argue for holding an alleged crime as a teenager against someone for all their life even if they've been a productive contributing citizen for decades since...

The practical answer is that Kavanaugh is unsuitable for SCOTUS.
The reality is that Republicans have the votes and means to push him through. The Democrats had one chance to stop Kavanaugh, and that was to make him so politically poisonous that the GOP would have to abandon him.
The nation is overwhelmingly in support of the Mueller probe. The Democrats should have made this about Kavanaugh’s perjury and they should have tied him to the investigation into Trump.
Instead it became a #metoo story from dated allegations from high school and college, an emotional and volatile line of attack that could implode and also fail.

We'll see. It's been my opinion that he's an innocent man of these sexual assault charges. If an FBI investigation can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt any differently.......... i'd be good with it.To be honest, goalposts moved for me after Kavanaugh's opening statement...and after showing utter contempt and disdain for answering questions truthfully. That's all fine for a political appointee to a cabinet position, but not for a judge on any bench. I never expected Ford's testimony alone would clear the bar for blocking confirmation, but Kavanaugh's performance alone was enough.
That said, I'd welcome any FBI investigation, however short, but I don't expect much once a floor vote is already scheduled. I doubt they'll ever be able to prove/disprove any allegations from the 1980s...at most they may find clear evidence that Kavanaugh lies under oath. And I agree, the mere fact that FBI went looking for Judge would be enough cover for ale, Collins and Murkowski. But they may not find him...
Optics of all of this is horrible. While I want another conservative justice, i’m now convinced it shouldn’t be this one. I only saw his opening statement & some questions but while I found great lulz in him calling the Democrats disgraceful, i found him unconvincing & evasive when under questioning. Not saying he did what he is accused of, but his evasiveness & general tempermant have swayed me the other way.

What I find most interesting is the sense of entitlement driving his ambition. Getting the job is more important than anything else, obviously. It's all about him. It's not about Justice or higher purpose at all. If confirmed, he won't carry the taint of this himself. The Court will bear it as well.
We need to watch scope closely though...confine the investigation strictly to the allegations at hand. Not horseshit character smears like Cavanaugh's drinking, etc.
