KaZaa Lite - neutered version of KaZaa with installer (no spyware or ad-ware)

The newest version of Limewire is pretty slick, but I've noticed that there's a lot less available on the Gnutella system (used by Limewire) than is available thru Fast Track (used by KaZaa). It seems more people are moving to KaZaa and leaving Gnutella behind. This may all change if Fast Track follows through with their intent to turn the system into a paid "subscription" system.

I ususally search thru both and have (only occassionally) had both running at the same time.

There is also a Limewire Pro (current cost $8.50, I think) that supposedly eliminates all the popups, ads and spyware and does automatic upgrades.

All that is is a number... You do know that Netscape 6 is BASED ON Mozilla 0.9.8 or something like that, right? As in they use the SAME code. Netscape just piles more useless crap on it.
The database is for improving the software and is a *very good idea*. Maybe you haven't noticed IE's "error reporting" tool. Same difference. W/O that database, your NS6 wouldn't even exist!

Great program. Something that you might have noticed is that the ad-part of Kazaa is satisfied by the dummy cd_clint.dll file that is in windows/system32 for normal Kazaa or Grokster or equivelent programs. Personaly I think Grokster works and looks a little better then Kazaa in general. What I did was coppy the cd_clint.dll file from the neutered Kazaa into System32 folder to replace the file installed by Grokster. Then I just removed the Groakster adware support and now I have a spyware free, add free Grokster without the extra Kazaa * buttons.

This Kazaa Lite still does not work for me. It just sits there and says "connecting..." Morpheus used to work fine.

My registry and file system were also full of b3d. The last Morpheus that I downloaded was named "Morpheus-b3d-v2". That must be where it all came from. Under Add/Remove there was a b3d viewer which I uninstalled.

If you've had the regular KaZaA installed before, you need to remove it manually, even if you 'uninstalled' it from Add/Remove Programs or uninstalled KaZaA, it still leaves pieces all over...

I've run Ad-Aware, and I've updated my HOSTS file to block a bunch of sites. But every once in a while a browser pops up with an ad for German live porn cams. It's driving me nuts!

I can't figure out what is causing the ad to come from, but here's what I know:

Right when the browser opened and before the content loaded, netstat showed the address "xww.de:http"

The ad itself shows a half-nekkie woman and the words "Live Chat mit Cams!" at the top. Under that it has the words "Zugangsoftware wird geladen..." which must mean "or we'll bug you continually".

Along with the ad, a Security Warning pops up asking if I want to install and run "WebConnect_v2.02" signed on 1/28/2002 6:38PM and distributed by "EBS electronic billing systems AG", Publisher authenticity verified by Thawte Server CA.

Can anyone tell me where this is coming from and how I can get rid of it? Please!?!

Btw...after you download and install Ad-aware, be sure to update it to the latest Reference File. You can download a program called RefUpdate (i think it's on the same page as ad-aware) to download and install it automatically. The newest reference file deletes all the BDE crap for you.

Kazaa has announced plans for a "subscription based" service. You might want to get in on K-L while you can, before the P2P network goes bye-bye.
