KaZaa Lite - neutered version of KaZaa with installer (no spyware or ad-ware)

Got the latest (1.7.1) version of KL the other day.....Very nice! Fastest d/l's to date! (100k+ on 3 files as I'm typing this) The little "Fastrack Accelerator" ap that's packaged with this is VERY cool! It allows you to set the "find more sources for download" intervals manually, so you potentially get a lot more people to d/l from, since it's not doing it's normal 2-4 minute cycle through your list. Check it out folks, you won't be disappointed!

As for the popups....see my post from 2June....The HOSTS file trick works! I have yet to get a popup from 1.7.1

Since last night I've had probs connecting using new Kazaa, it just keeps displaying connecting. I disabled firewall, used proxy, no proxy, tried on two other machines, and now have determined it must be them? Anyone else having a similar situation whether constant or intermittent? TIA

huesmann- yep using 1.7.1, and it used to work fine, just trouble last night and today for some unbeknownst reason grrrrr

Was just wondering if anyone else had any connect probs using it, possibly I should redo the hosts?

Well, I didn't have any trouble connecting today, and I didn't even do any hosts tweak or anything to the standard installation from the 1.7.1 setup prog.

 

So, let me get this str8.....

I uninstall the old KaZaa Lite version and then I download the new version (1.7) & follow the supertrick from the previous thread?????

Will the new version contain spyware????

Has anyone run ad-aware after install???? Cause I get spyware detected!!!!!!!!!!

For those who haven't heard, Fasttrack/Kazaa is folding under the weight of legal costs due to the lawsuits from the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America). So, get your songs while you can - or can just wait for another Napster/Kazaa iteration to appear.

On a funny note, Napster filed for Chapter 11 this past week. Way to go RIAA, I'm sure music filesharing is a thing of the past now. [sarcasm]

You wanna know how evil the RIAA is? Ever wonder why blank cassette tapes are so expensive compared to CDs? Did you know that there is a surcharge on every blank cassette tape you buy imposed by the RIAA because you 'might' use it to dub copyrighted material? I hear the RIAA is pushing for similar charges for blank CDs. Screw them and never buy blank CDs from the music section!

it'll never happen cuz cd-r's are dual use for data. there are audio cd-r's that already have the tax/royalty built into them. germany has a tax on all cd'rs while canada is considering the same

If you didn't do the HOSTS tweak, you will still have the Spyware, ie, they will be able to monitor each keystroke from your computer keyboard via the open port which Kazaa uses.

Don't forget, some computers used tapes (albeit they were answering machine tapes) back in the day for data, before the hard drive came about. I doubt the music industry cares whether or not you can put data on cd's as well.

Not true. All the hosts trick does is eliminate many banner ads from loading on web pages because the computer does not know what IP address to follow to get to the banner suppliers' server. It has nothing to do with spyware. Anybody can do the host trick, even without Kazaa, it has nothing to do with any spyware!!!

NEWSFLASH: KaZaa and Morpheus BOTH suck/ed. You move from one to the other so that the good ones don't have a chance? For shame. It's bad enough that CuteMX failed before Napster did but Filetopia (Anandtech's kinda app!), eDonkey (The first multi-source segmented download P2P app), and WinMX (Not my fave but it continues the horrible Napster protocol with decent enhancements) need support. Why aren't these in the media? They predate iMesh, KaZaa, Morpheus Scour and all the other crap, but they refuse to take off despite their superiorities!
