why does NADA have such higher prices for used car values for the same vehicle? It could be up to $1500 more in some cases.

What do dealers use to determine trade-in value (before they try to screw you)?

Most dealers use the Black Book or the results from a local auction to put a value on a trade-in.

What car? I'll give you dealer auction results, which are what dealers as a basis to value your car.

I'd like to know the dealer auction results for my car please:

2004 BMW 330CI, 32k miles, premium, no navigation, cold weather, great condition.

Not sure, but I know that's why my county uses NADA when determining assessed value for the personal property tax

Would you be willing to look mine up, out of the sheer curiosity between the actual and NADA value that my county uses?

1991 Toyota Supra Turbo, 203k miles, all options, sunroof (no targa), fair condition.

This would presume the car is worth enough to even send to auction, though, which may not be the case.

I read many dealers use Galves along with recent auction prices. Auction prices set the price.

NADA tend to be really high and unrealistic. Some insurance companies use NADA for values which is good if you totaled a car.

I use Edmunds clean trade-in value minus 10% when estimating what my trade-in might be worth.

Condition: Above Average Below
Sale Price $16,699 $13,264 $9,829
Mileage 34,930 66,635 98,340

Estimate based on 32,000 miles:
Auction $18,450 $16,200 $13,950

Keep in that estimate is very rough. The average car sold has 66k miles (a total of 14 have been sold in the last week), and only two of them had less than 50k miles. Because those two cars sold for a premium they through off the average prices. To get a better idea of the market look at past results:

Thanks for the info, DeviousTrap. My most recent county assessment was at $2750. Way above the auction price.

Of course, anything assessing for under $3000 here isn't subject to the personal property tax -- that's the exemption amount. Just $25 for the sticker!

Auction results matter more than any book. Black Book has those results. NADA and KBB tend to be higher than Black Book.

So a dealer that's looking to take your car on trade doesn't care if NADA says it's worth 20k, when he's seen the same car going for 17k at auction.

How about a 2005 Pontiac GTO? Six speed manual with 42k miles in great condition.

I just know this is really going to hurt haha.

Is there somewhere one could look up these auction values, or are you posting numbers from some internal database not available to the public. Guessing the latter...
If you're still posting, how about a 2006 Lexus IS350 without nav, 60k miles? Thanks in advance!

Hmm not bad. It was in average to good condition when i bought it. $779.

It still has a bad CV joint, but that's it really. 23.5mpg city, 32Hwy, AWD, I'm golden!

iirc, KBB and NADA values have pretty much nothing to do with reality.

national auto auctions such as manheim are about as close to a decent market as there is. either that or ebay motors.

It's manheim info that's not available to the general public. If anyone else needs it please PM me, I'm going to stop posting the results in this thread.
