I'm not sure how "hot" this deal is because I've never posted a "hot deal" before this one. But I thought it was a good one anyways. Here's the link. Great monitor, good price, and a nice warranty.

If the link doesn't work, simply go to newegg at http://www.newegg.com.

Also... sorry if this is a repost.

I purchased a KDS RAD5 after researching for a few days and I got it for $320 shipped after a Instant rebate, so for $330 shipped this is a nice deal.

Great monitor btw! Amazing quality for the price!

According to the site the specs are the same. The 5 comes with a free mouse! hurray? The 5q comes with a telescoping neck, presumably more adjustable.

If I'm not mistaken, the 5 is silver and the 5q is dark grey and like the above note, "has a telescoping neck."

I don't know if I would use this as my primary monitor, but as a secondary it looks pretty good. 300:1 contrast ratio isn't to bad, and 25ms response time is good too (if its truthful some companies are not) and the viewing angles are decent. I don't think it has DVI though. Maybe one day it'll ride next to my Compaq TFT7020 on my geforce 4 (If gateway ever ships it) :|
pretty good deal though. Especially if you can get some kind of rebate on it.

i just recently bought a rad5 -- i was very much amazed at how good the quality was for the price!
i was thinking it woudl be a stopgap measure while i upgraded later on to a neovo or samsung...i might just stick w/ the rad

no problems playing medal of honor at all

you should try amazon.
if you have one of those 10% off coupon, it's cheaper at amazon.

<< How are DVD's on this monitor? >>

I have a Rad5x. (same specs)

DVD's and games both look wonderful.

I was expecially surpised with gaming performance. No blurring or ghosting with Half Life or Carmageddon 2. It ran flawlessly with my GeForce2 MX.

This is my third system though so it is basically backup and I wanted to experiment with an LCD.

my rad5 shows very blurry texts characters when in 800X600 mode, the tech support guy said this screen is best viewed in 1024x768 and no guarantees in other display modes. i use 1024x768 most of the time anyways but just want to point this out to people who prefer 800X600 on a 15 inch monitor

The optimal resolution is 1024x768. I have a rad5 myself and its great. The cheapo mouse that comes with the rad5 is very generic though. Dont forget to turn on clear-type in windows if the text is too blurry. I have found it pretty helpful.

AndyD:

I would like to know where you got the rad-7 for under 500! =)

I've been looking at the rad-5 and rad-7 for a while now. It's almost unbearable to resist buying one. I want an LCD really bad =(

I set my res to 1280x1024 and i'm used to it. I would really like to get a rad-7 if I can get a good deal. =)

the reason LCDs look blurry at non-native resolutions is you are dealing with a physical resolution versus a CRT. With an LCD, the reason that 1024x768 looks best is that there are physically that many "dots" on the screen. If you change resolutions, then those dots have to start sharing, which is where that blurriness comes from. Same way with laptop screens. This sucks for text, but in many games it like getting anti-aliasing for free

I would have to second the vote for the Rad-5q. I just bought on last week and it is amazingly bright, great for games "RTCF & MOH" on a GeForce 2 MX. In my opinion it is better than a Planar 17.4 LCD I used to own a few months back.

I believe they were $499 at some Sam's Clubs (at least at mine), fortunetly I was happy with my 15" (unfortunetly I couldn't afford the $500+ bucks for the beauty). Now it looks like all Sam's have are the more expensive Samsung monitors. They aren't bad looking but the 17" one is $100 more.
