My jaw dropped when I was in Office Depot this evening...they have the KDS 17" VS-7i marked at $157...and there *may* be a $30 mail-in rebate!

Disclaimer..as I type this, I realize that...perhaps...the rebate has expired? I didn't have time to look at it...I was being shuffled out of the store (as it was 9pm).

At $127...it's an incredible deal. BUT, if the rebate has expired, this deal officially drops to a *warm* deal.

I believe the price on the shelf tag stated $157.60, so this would indicate to me a clearance price.

Of course, I could be wrong... "$XX.60" could mean sale price at Office Depot. I am not as familiar with their pricing scheme as I am with oh, say, Best Buy.

Don't think it was clearance. I saw them myself a day or so ago, didnt see any rebate info, doesn't mean there wasn't any.

I strongly suggest not buying a 17" monitor if it doesn't have the trinitron tube.(or comparable Real-flat tube). I sit here with a 17" normal monitor and a dell 17" trinitron and the sony tube monitor is 3x better than the regular 17. I only run the regular tube 17 at 800x600 but run the sony at 1280x1024. I couldn't bear the standard
17 at 1024x768, but the sony tube is comfortable at 1280x1024.

Its your eyes we're talking about, why cut corners, you'll be having a unhappy face with 2" thick coke bottle glasses when your old (like 40) or so.

It just might be on clearance. OD for some strange reason sometimes puts up tags for clearanced items like it's the price of the item. Case in point, the Linksys Phoneline network in a box. I saw it at my nearest OD for $49.99 and they would ring it up for $29.88. At another OD I actually saw it at the price of $29.88 with nothing labeling it as clearance. And finally at one OD I saw it posted at the price but with a big ole red sticker saying that it was a cleanced item at almost 50% off.

As for the monitor, I'm leery of the Visual Sensations (VS) model line, I hear they are not the best monitors to buy. The Avitrons (AV) are much better with the Triniton picture tube. I have one which I bought over this weekend and it's great, but a bit expensive.

The VS-7I is NOT a closeout model. It is brand new and is replacing the VS-7E model. I have one, its pretty nice.

I would only get a KDS Avitron model. Otherwise you may have issues with repairs/ warranty. The customer service and tech support are great. The Avitron models come with advance replacement warranty. I would check with OD and make sure it's not a floor model or out of box model. You will have a hard time with warranty work. The warranty is not transferable, so if refurbished, there is none. The Flat definition models are better than the Dell Trinitrons. Good luck.

I also wouldn't touch a KDS if it weren't for the beautiful AV-17TF (Avitron) sitting on my desk. The advanced replacement program is on both their Avitrons and the Visual Sensation Monitors. The program is called KARES and the website for the monitors.

Avitron Monitors:
http://www.kdsusa.com/ALL/Avitron/Avitron.htm

Visual Sensations:
http://www.kdsusa.com/ALL/Visual%20Sensations/Visual%20Sensations.htm

BTW, if you have an Avitron monitor the KARES info is not included with the monitor, you have email them for it (don't ask me why, my guess is they want to make sure you give them your warranty info) and they will mail you the info. The info is here:

you guys are urinating all over this man's (or woman's) deal. some people don't have $300-$400 to spend on monitors that are SUBJECTIVELY better. as soon as i pay my bills, if i have $180 left over I AM GETTING THIS MONITOR. i work with graphics and my main concern will be how much i can calibrate...
THIS is a SMOKIN' deal if i can find a rebate form for it...
thanks dude

A pricematch and a coupon will get you this monitor for $117.60, and thats IF the rebate has expired. If the rebate is still good, then you're talking $87.60.

Hi all. I'm looking for a good 19" monitor. I've did a little research and it came down to these 3:

SONY CPD-G400, KDS-AV195TF, IIYAMA VM PRO 450/ A901HT...

the Sony and KDS use FD Trinitron, and the iiYama uses Diamdtron NF technology. Which 1 should i get?

The KDS FD tube is the same as the Sony FD tube, but the picture is incredibly better. I don't know why, but the KDS completely rocks. I have the 17" model of that one and will stick with KDS because of it. The quality and controls are great and got it for a great price. You might want to check "http://www.Computers4sure.com". That is where I got mine and it was about $60 bucks cheaper at the time. Good luck.

My Off Topic rant for the evening:

About three weeks ago, a co-worker asked for some advice on a system purchase. He was leaning heavily towards a Power Spec system from the Micro-Center. The system he chose seemed fine as far as specs go. We then discussed monitors. He was looking at a 15" monitor for $139 @ the Micro-Center. I told him for $20 more, he could head to Office Depot and get a 17" monitor. He was a bit thick-skulled and said "I've seen the 15" monitor and it looks quite nice". I couldn't convince him to go for the 17" at Office Depot. What a knuckle-head.

note--sure sign of a hot deal: the company/b&m/website bumps the price back up. office depot is now selling this monitor FOR $199--saying the suggested list price is $239. if you go to KDS's website, you will see that this IS A BOLDFACE LIE. the only reason i got mine wednesday for this price was because i found a store that was lax in bumping it up--they had just removed the $157.88 shelf sign.
