Hello

I don't know whether this has been brought up before......

I just installed an air duct that I purchased from Antec, some of their cases already have them installed but the one I have didn't so decided to give it a shot to see if it helps. It really made a difference, almost 10 degrees at idle and full load. The duct is adjustable and all I did was cut a hole in the side panel directly in line with the cpu and siliconed the duct on the panel. I ordered a grill filter assembly to go on the outside of the panel.

Anyway it sure made a big difference and I highly recommend it if your having some heat issues.

Hello

Well yes, in a way. But this way your using the cpu fan to draw in the cool air right on top of it, thus eliminating the need for another fan. I've noticed also that the cpu fan isn't revving up anymore even under a load, but is still staying cooler. I can feel a pretty good flow of air sucking in through the air guide.

It is best to buy the air guide seperate, and cut the hole yourself, that way you can get the guide centered perfectly on the cpu.

If you can find an electrician or plumber buddy or if you have a knockout tool, that works the best instead of trying to cut it out by hand.

Maybe yes, maybe no - I made a side cpu duct wich worked great, but when I added a fan to it the temps actually went up! I think beacuse side fans just mix the hot cpu air into the case, where the duct lets the cpu fan pull the air into the cpu for cooling then the exhaust fan removes it.

Theres a little movie clip on the site that I linked to that helps explain how the duct works. I'm still swearing by it, now that I've been using it for a few days. Its around 75 in the office right now and am idling at around 32 with the mb temps at 30. Before, with it that hot in here it would be at 40-41 with the cpu fan running at close to 4000. Right now the cpu fan is at 2500 with the 120mm case fans at 1100.

I did an encode on a dvd disc, which pegs the P4 3.2 Northwood for close to 30 minutes and the cpu temp never got above 44. Before it would get to 55 and of course the cpu fan would just scream.

I'm currently bulding another computer with a prescott and am doing the same thing so will see how it works with that......
