Sears/Kenmore has effectively made in impossible to ever find a competitor's product that is a better deal. All the rebates specifiy the features of each qualifying product, and each has it's own trademarked features. Other brands aren't going to have those trademark features, so the rebate is pointless.

Sure you can try to find a washer with TRIPLE ACTION (TM) agitator with QUIET PAK (TM) insulation, or a range with LogiClean(R), SturdiGlide(R) racks, TripleTask(R) door, AND UltraBake(TM)...but I doubt you will find one.

Nice find if it actually was obtainable though.

This used to be a 'quiet' deal Sears and some other retailers offered...

You will never get anything for free as even if the unit you are comparing is in the same plastic/metal shell the part number will be different....also as mentioned above with trademarked features it's easy for the retailer to argue 'well even though it makes 12 ice cubes at a time also, our trademarked 'Perfect Cube' system makes more tasty ice.

Still people win lotteries....also get hit by lightning too

Just a sales gimmick...kinda like those car dealers that say "if we can't beat the other guy's price, it's free". Hmm...the dealer can either give you a price $1 under, or eat the entire car as a loss. Tough choice!

I'd say this is worse though. With the car dealership, you still would be considered a winner...of at least a $1 discount. Even if they matched it it would be a draw but at least it was still a legitimate offer. With this one, there is no possible way for it ever to be valid.

A better example would be if a Chevy dealership said that they would give you the car if you found the exact same features, options, and interior as one of Ford's cars for less. Since they are made by 2 different companies, there is no way they would ever be the same.

I would think this gimmick would backfire on them because if people are looking closely at all their competitors models and their features, they are more likely to find another brand's model that they like better, especially when they find out they aren't getting a Kenmore for free.

It's a great marketing tactic to show that they have some trademarked features that "nobody else has" and the average stupid consumer will likely fall hard for it given the competitive prices that Kennmore sells at. That having been said, Kennmores are pretty decent appliances at a good price, so nobody is really getting hurt. On the other hand nobody is getting a free appliance either.

Count me in. I'm in the market for a new refrigerator but after being reminded about this scam, I'll be sure to stay clear of Sears.

You guys are all wrong on this one. I worked at Sears for 7 years and my Manager approved about 7 or 8 of these that I can remember for customers who had indeed found a better price on a Mini Stereo,Washer,Dryer etc. I was actually the one who sold the MiniStereo and the couple had found a model that had all the features of this Philips stereo but was selling for a better price at the local Bryn Mawr Audio/Video (Now Tweeter).

I'm not saying that it's possible for every particular model that Sears is advertising it for but it's definately possible certain ones if you can find it.

Kenmore makes nothing. The trick is to find out who makes the base appliance, then search everywhere.

If anyone find one good inexpensive dishwasher, please tell me. I only use the dishwasher less than 5 times per year. We have only 2 persons in the house.

Sometimes the salespeople will know who the maker is and let you know.Others are clueless. My GE fridge has a kenmore twin.

If we work together we might just beat them at their own game for once.Cant hurt to try.

Alex-I dont know what a good price for you is but Ive seen decent low line dishwashers around $180. BB carries a whirlpool model about that price.

'Allo, all!

This posting seems to have a bit of possible info about Kenmore appliances and who the OEMs are.

FWIW, the Whirlpool Whirlpool GU1500XTLQ (higher priced example here)seems to be pretty much identical to the washer here, although I haven't found it anywhere online for cheaper. :\ (Seems to have the same dimensions as the Sears model, too - might also be comparable to the GU1200XTLQ) However, with all of that said, it seems like they've done a really not-so-nice thing, as far as the promotion goes. One of the necessary items to be compared is: "15. Lower Rack Fold Down Tine Rows." It seems like they may have switched the top and bottom racks, maybe? (Don't even know if such a thing is possible.) The Whirlpool models all have the same fold down tines on the top rack instead of the bottom rack. :\

Ahh, well.

Good luck, all.

Kenmore technologies are probably patented so even if a company wanted to drive kenmore outta business, they'd be hit by so many lawsuits. u know, if i was whirlpool or something, i'd setup a fake company and make products with the exact same specs as kenmore's just to drive them outta business. but if the judge finds any connections, whirlpools going to be in deep sht too. hehe.

Time to lock this advertisement.

Look, this is one of those d&mn crap advertisements for Sears. They put their name on it, change the model number, call all of the features something different, and then they are selling something that no one can *ever* comparison shop to. This same trick is done with carpet, with mattresses, etc, etc, etc. Companies offer these low-cost guarantees knowing that the stuff they sell is all one-off and is not comparable to any other item. Anyone who posts this as a "hot deal" is either naive or a flunky for the company.

I got it in an email yesterday. Just checking the input on this because I am also in the market for a refrigerator. From all the input, probably an Off Topic discussion but hot deal if someone finds a comparable item.

You aren't paying attention. Even though they don't manufacture it, they get the manufacturer to make them a model w/ a different model # from everywhere else. Thus you can't 'pricematch it' to a competitor (which is NOT what this deal is, but, I'm just making a point).

As for this special offer, as others said, the Kenmore specific model will have some name for a feature that the 'sister' product at another vendor will NOT have. Whether or not that makes Kenmores product better is not the point, the point is that they won't have to honor the rebate because it's not the same as the one you want to compare against.

They do this with beds all the time..

All the matresses at each place have a diffrent name even though they are made by the same manufacturer and are the same damn thing..
That is why I hate all those places that say we will beat anyprice by 1000% etc etc.. or you find it cheaper its free..

I love everyone in this thread... everyone is pointing to the obvious but no one is saying it. The products offered by Kenmore are well differentiated from the market and thus they can engage in monopolistic competition. The fact that you won't find another comparable product makes this guaruntee worthless. You might find a out-lier idiot manager to honor this, but the chances of that are slim to none.

My experience has been what RIGorous1 said. If anyone is curious though, there's a great site to find out which manufacturers makes which Kenmore appliances.
