It's 404...but considering that I forked over $400 for the VR-6060 a couple of weeks ago, that would be a decent deal if the company's reputable. They're not listed at ResellerRatings, so I won't make any comment one way or the other on that.

Not bad. I like the Onkyo TX600 myself.

I think I'll wait for DTS 96/24 to hit the low-end receivers before I upgrade.

Yeah, I nabbed one at BB for $324 or something like that as soon as I saw the thread here...I did have to go to 3 stores to find it though...

Yeah, really awesome deal for the receiver at BB. Found one on clearance for $329.99 that I picked up. I am quite happy with it. The 24mo 0% financing on the BB card also sweetened the deal for me as well.

I wouldn't recommend this receiver. I bought it when it was on sale at BB a couple months ago and wasn't very happy with it. The component video switching only has a 10MHz bandwidth and for HDTV you need around 30MHz. It made both my HDTV and progressive DVD player look like crap. I do wish that more receivers came with the RF remote this has. I miss that part since I returned it and bought a HK AVR-325. Also, the digital inputs weren't that plentiful.

True, if you have an HDTV and you need component switching this receiver is not for you. It's one of the few weak points of this unit IMO. However, I don't use video switching on my receiver... I prefer direct connections. This isn't always possible if your TV has a limited number of component inputs, though.

I agree. I do not have HDTV at this time, and do not plan to at any time in the near future. Even if I did, I would still prefer to run the DVD and VCR directly into the TV. Most decent sets these days have at least 2 AV inputs, which is all I need. I have a seperate TV that is dedicated to the PS2/GC, etc, so it is not an issue at all for me. Nice to know for the future though.

I was just letting people know so they didn't feel screwed later down the line. A receiver is something you keep for a while(unless you are rich) and HDTV will eventually be commonplace. I have an X-box too so I needed the extra component video inputs. One other thing about this receiver is that the digital inputs aren't assignable so if you're DVD player has one type of digital out that doesn't match the digital in of the receiver you'll have to hook it up differently. It's not that big of a deal, but it could be confusing when you try to teach other people how to turn everything on. "No, hunny the DVD setting is really the cable and the DVD is really the cable box..." I hate those types of conversations.
Other than that, you have no chance of finding another THX receiver for this cheap that is this good. The one I ended up getting to replace this one isn't THX, but THX is just a certification that the equipment makers have to pay for. A non-THX receiver could be better than a THX one, but the company was too cheap to go through the expensive process of getting it certified.

I agree HDTV is here to stay, but I figure it will at least be 2-3 years before I get a set, and probably much longer than that. For $330 I don't think you can find any reciever that will match it. At it's MSRP, however, things do change. Onkyo, Denon and Yamaha all offer great receivers in the $600 bracket, among others. I haven't had the chance to mess with mine, but on my old Kenwood that had an optical and a coax input for digital signals, you could change the on screen display to DVD/CD/Video, etc. Of course the remote just had a single button for audio, one for video and you cycled through the available inputs till you got the right one. No one touch button for DVD, although the remote did support macros, albeit limited.

I have had this for a few days and have to say it is a fine receiver ofor audio...period. As for it being an able component or video switch, it might fall short. I have 5 inputs on my HDTV and had no use for the inputs on the receiver.

I wouldn't worry about the component switching as a good component switch costs more than this thing does.

Two really nice things about this receiver-

#1 It kicks out a true 92watts per channel. This has been confirmed by many people.
#2 Not only is the THD very low- it was measured from 20-20k. Most manufacturers only measure THD at the 1k level.

Can anyone confirm that the crossover frequency for the bass is set at 80hz and isn't adjustable?

Just picked one up for $317 new in box at Circuit City. Also, these have a 2 year warranty parts/labor from the mfgr.

The original link is good now but lists at $378 and is not in stock. And, obviously, not hot at this time.

And there is no VR6070 on circuitcity.com site. Maybe only BM. FYI
