Umm, not really. It was decided by a single state.

For some reason Ohio, Iowa and New Mexico are not being called yet even thought they all show at least a 1% win for Bush in each state.
Popular vote is mingless because all it measure of is how many people in the locked states had either nothing better to do or a local election that was important to them

Bush won by a larger margin than 2000 in the electoral college, and has a much bigger popular vote lead than Gore had. 3.5 million vote advantage. He also received more than 50% of the vote, something that hasn't happened in a presidential election in 24 years. It's a convincing victory.
With the exception of the ridiculously close vote in 2000, 2004 was the closest election in the electorals since 1916.Originally posted by: Rainsford
All true, but 2000 was a VERY close election, as close elections go in the last 20 years, 2000 was closest, 2004 is next.Originally posted by: Valvoline6

Your math is faulty. 20 years = 6 elections. 2004, 2000, 1996, 1992, 1988, 1984.Originally posted by: Valvoline6
1960 was even closer popular vote wise than 2000. Kennedy won by about 100,000 votes nation wide. BTW when you say "The closest election in the last 20 years" that's only 3 elections. So while this one is the second closest it's also the second largest magin of victory.
