On the Bill Mahar show Kerry jokes about going to the White House and killing Bush.
They were talking about Kerry going on vacation:

Maher: You could have went to New Hampshire and killed two birds with one stone.

Kerry: Or, I could have gone to 1600 Pennsylvania and killed the real bird with one stone.

This guy wanted to be President? You don't joke about crap like this. Did any Republican ever talk about going and killing Clinton? Sheeesh sad.

BTW: IF Kerry gets the nod in 08 I am sure you'll see this bit on TV. No excuse for any wana be President to act like this.

Edit... ooops posted by accident before I was ready.

Link to Newsbusters, I believe a right wing site, but the quote is there

Edit: Changed thread title, happy?

What do you mean you "believe" it's a right wing site. The very top of the site says "exposing and combating liberal media bias."

With all the bad news for the Republicans lately, this is the best you can do? What a waste of a thread.

I googled "Bill Maher Kerry" and this was link 1 or 2 so I posted it, didn't look at much else.

IF it is a wasted thread then why comment? Move along, nothing to see here.

I felt the need to point out the lack of substance. If you wanted to start a thread to take the focus off of the recent bad news for the Republicans and bash the Democrats I'm sure you could've found something better than this.

This is the second Democrat to make a joke about killing the President in recent memory.

Can anyone find a quote of a major Republican ever making a joke about killing Clinton or any other Democrat?

This is yet another example of Democratic hate speak.
The Democratic party is in such sad shape if this is the best they can do. What happened to the concept of a "stateman"? Who in the Democrat party can the American people look at and admire for who they are and what they say?

And Cellar, this has nothing to do with recent bad news. It is about what Kerry said, I am sure we can deal with more than topic at a time.

It was a bad joke, not only because it was in bad taste, but because it isn't funny at all. That being said, I don't think it should be blown out of proportion.

By the way, did anyone else actually watch the show? I liked the interview with Lincoln Chafee. I don't know much about him, but why doesn't he get more publicity. He seemed very reasonable. (That is a complement compared to all the nutjob politicians running around these days.)

How upset were you when Anne Coulter suggested Clinton should be assassinated during the Lewinski scandal? I believe she said something like "should we impeach him or assassinate him?" She's not a member of congress, but she's definitely a key figure.

And with regard to the part you bolded, the same could be said by switching Democrat with Republican, and according to the recent polls, the majority of people seem to think that way as well.

Edit: What I really don't understand is, how anyone with a clear mind can look at American politics as a whole for the last 6 years, with all the flat-out lies and BS this administration has thrown to the American public, and with a Republican-controlled congress that has done absolutely nothing to check the executive branch, with the endless amount of scandals, including, but not limited to,

Bin Laden Determined to Strike Inside US Gate, Downing Street Memo Gate, Election Gate 2000 (Stolen by the Supreme Court), Troop Strength Gate, No End Game Gate (In Iraq, but there's others that haven't been thought through), Out Sourcing Osama bin Laden Gate, Mission Accomplished Gate, Abu Gareb Gate, Gitmo Gate. Kyoto Treaty Gate, National Guard Gate, Harken Oil Gate, Authorizing Torture Gate, Terror Alert Gate. Loss of Good Will After 911 Gate. Election Gate 2004 (Diebold, voter fraud), John Bolton Recess Appointment Gate, Ted Armstrong Gate (Paying journalists), Fred Gannon Gate (Male prostitute in White House Press Corps), Brownie Gate (Response to Hurricane Katrina),
Scooter Libby Gate (Leaks that expose a CIA agent), Body Armor Gate (Not supplying troops on the ground), Staged Meetings With the Troops Gate, Jack Abramoff Gate, Harriet Miers Gate, Stem Cell Research Gate, Terri Schiavo Gate, United Arab Emirates Gate, NSA Gate (Spying on Americans), FISA Gate (Spying without a warrant), Iraq Spending No Audit Gate, Medicare Gate, Enron Gate (Bush connection to from Ken Lay),
Federal Debt Gate (8 Trillion and growing), Trailer Gate (WMDs that weren't), Signing Statement Gate, Torture Gate, Privatizing the Military Gate, Geneva Convention Gate.

How anyone can see all of this, and then ask themselves "Who in the Democrat party can the American people look at and admire for who they are and what they say?" is beyond me. I honestly just don't understand it.

Hmm, only 3 sites with this quote on Google news.

One of them links back to the newbusters site. The other GOP worshipping blog quotes Hannity.

I smell a slander suit coming on.

Hehehehhe

He could have meant that IF he had gone to 1600 Penn.. he'd have gotten OBL... One big bird ... with one big stone...

Why do you attribute what he said to any thing more... Metaphor am like that.. very useful...

Like the work of the poet... you put your meaning to the chosen words.. but the writer has his or her own... as is often the case here... in wonderland AT..

Emily said (sorta)
"I've never seen a moor
I've never seen the sea
but know I what the heather is
and what a billow be..."

Yup, anyone with a High School Diploma should understand what Kerry meant or at least that he didn't mean offing the Dubyah.

Only 3 sites with this link because nobody watches or cares about Bill Mahar, which is a big reason why Kerry was there.

The full quote with context.
Maher: I know you are at your wife's birthday party so I appreciate very much that you taking a few minutes to talk to us and uh...

Kerry: Well, I'm not actually not at it this instant, but I'm glad to be with you.

Maher: What do you... she must be hard to shop for. What...

Kerry: Very hard... very hard.

Maher: What did you get her?

Kerry: I did not get her ketchup.

(laughter)

Maher: But what did you get her this year for her birthday?

Kerry: Actually we ran away to a wonderful retreat in Vermont and that was our sort of getaway.

Maher: You could have went to New Hampshire and killed two birds with one stone.

Kerry: Or, I could have gone to 1600 Pennsylvania and killed the real bird with one stone.
What I'm curious about is why Kerry added "sort of"... what kind of getaway is Kerry talking about?

Does anyone seriously think he meant anything more than if he was elected (and hence went to the white house) he would have solved the real problems of the nation?

(Or after seeing the full context, perhaps that giving his wife the position of First Lady would be an excellent present?)

If you really think this was even a joking death threat: "how can you be so obtuse?"
