I haven't read whole thread yet, saw some folks taking issue with this being posted on a "right wing" website...

Although the OP quotes a "right wing" website I was watching the show on Tivo last night and this is indeed what was said (or close enough for my memory).

It is very slightly out of context but not in an important way.

The joke was meant not to point out that Kerry wants to kill Bush (silliness ... possibly true in some dark corner, who knows but overall silliness this was not what he meant). It was meant as a stab at the fact that killing Bush would solve lots of problems simultaneously (two birds/problems one stone/solution).

If you have gone out and pre-bunched your panties about this get over it. This is what we call a "joke" and it was far from poor taste. The delivery of it that I saw would have been acceptable even if said during a presidential debate...and likely retorted with an equally silly joke (ie "You would just flip-flop and change your mind before you got to my house", says Bush).

So summary:
1.Yes it was said.
2.Yes, mildly out of context the way the OP has posted it here..not too important
3.It was a joke and not one of particularly poor taste so if you are upset, get a sense of humor.
4.All you are doing with this thread is flooding a portion of the internet with keywords the secret service is looking for and making their jobs more difficult.

As a side note:
Robin Williams was on the show. He was f'n hilarious and surprisingly well educated about politics. During most of the show when he wasn't talking he was pretend typing on a computer keyboard *with one hand* after they had discussed the whole congressional page scandal.

What are your thoughts on President Bush joking about not finding the weapons of mass destruction?

f'n ouch dude. Yeah I remember that skit... bush peeking under a couch or something "where are those weapons". Now THAT was in poor taste. It was almost like, "haha isn't war a funny thing?"

I agree with your summary with the exception of point #3. John Kerry is still a Senator, and ran against Bush in 2004. It is somewhat inappropriate for someone of his status and position to make such jokes, particularly about the President.

Whether you like or hate Bush, eliminating him from the equation does not eliminate the political problems and challenges our nation now faces...the problem is an utterly corrupted two party system, and John Kerry is part of that problem...of course, had Kerry offered a viable alternative to Bush, we would not be having this discussion as he would now be President.

I would expect such humor from John Stewart, Bill Maher or any number of other political commentators who make such jokes with far more intelligence then John Kerry demonstrated with his comment.

Here is the part you just don't seem to get:
"killing two birds with one stone" is itself not even about KILLING a bird. It's just an expression that means "accomplishing more than one thing at a time".

Yeah, see.. you're just too serious about this dude. Look at ya getting all fired up and pulling the former election results into it, yammering about the stature of the person saying it blah blah.. (serious voice... "problems and challenges our nation now faces" ) give me a break.

Joke, kinda funny, hahaha, no harm, no foul, not inappropriate in the slightest.

Save it for something important. m'kay?

Yes I understand the meaning of the expression, but that was not the context in which Kerry used the phrase.

You are the one getting a bit excited over all of this...I was simply stating the obvious...of course if Bush made a similar comment, some of you would be screaming from the mountain tops.

Joke, kinda funny, hahaha, no harm, no foul, not inappropriate in the slightest.
Somewhat inappropriate...politicians should leave comedy to the comedians.

Save it for something important. m'kay?
Do you have a giant sized Mr. Mackey head to go with your m'kay?

I laugh this off because it's coming from someone that no one pays attention to. The only reason it has attention is because once again Kooky Kerry made another boneheaded statement that makes no sense. while if this were switched around, the libs would be getting their panties in a twist over something like this. We'd get everyone on the looney left calling for resignation, arrests, and public apologies.

as it is, you leftists are doing a great job staying true to form apologists. keep up the good work!

quoted for totally looney post of the day.. GJ dude..
What do you expect, this guy actually thinks Bush is doing a good job:laugh:

Quote me EVER stating such.

Good luck!

BTW, you're doing a great job as a closet lib

I too remember Jessy helms saying on the senate floor, about Clinton, "he Better not come down here" (something like that) meaning Clinton better not come down to Helms neck of the woods, or else.

That was a direct threat, but demos just let it pass.

Killed two birds with one stone. = Get two jobs/tasks/whatever done with one action.

Kerry: Or, I could have gone to 1600 Pennsylvania and killed the real bird with one stone. = If I were in the White House I could have got the REAL JOB done with one action. Duh.

The Bushes have made more disparaging remarks about Democrats, blacks, homosexuals, well pretty much about everybody.

Shh! Let them have their fake outrage -- they need it. Everything seems to be backfiring for them, so it's all they have.

Poofjohn is upset about a Kerry quote.:brokenheart: Remember the SNL skit; 41 & 43 hunting and 41 decides not to shoot 43 because Babs wouldn't like it. Even though it would have been a service to the country.

For everyone that's confused about the context and the whole two birds thing....If Kerry went to the White House, Mr Bush wouldn't be there, so how exactly could he kill him?

maybe this will motivate you

The very nature of a debate or discussion is the exchange of ideas and responding to comments or arguments made by another person...if you can't be bothered with the semantics of discussion, perhaps you shouldn't post.

I knew you wanted something to do!

Read another way my reply said, "You are irrational about this. Your continued replies are evidence. Rational people understand the difference between something serious and something that is a joke. I feel you are so off the deep end on this that there is nothing that will ever bring you around. Continued long replies would offer no value."

Somebody else may provide something interesting for me to reply to but so far the only reply I can give to you is one difficult to express in text. Pointing a twirling finger at the side of my own head and saying, "coo-coo ... coo-coo" is a close description.

Thanks for the cookie! Yum!

See what I've done now? Gone and wasted a bunch of my time typing. I should have done the blah blah thing again. Would have been just as effective methinks.

Where's Palehorse's post that it's 'unclear' whether Kerry meant something innocent or that he wanted to assassinate the president, since you can't clearly determine it from the literal words?

no, I saw that show, and it was clearly a joke. in poor taste? yes. But there was no ambiguity there.

And Craig, I'm sorry, but everyone I've spoken to who hears the "original words" (10 second soundclip) of Kerry's latest blunder agree that they sound like they are directed at the troops.

I've shown the newer full video to my wife, who actually refuses to partake in politics, and she agreed that it isnt really clear as to who Kerry was referring to.

It only seems "clear" or "obvious" or "sure" to those who made up their minds before they even saw the video. For the rest of us, it's difficult to determine context.
