1. Buy $20 Black & Decker coffee maker from Walmart and $10 grinder
2. Buy $1 pack of filters and $5 bag of coffee
3. Grind beans, add filter, add water, turn coffee maker on.
4. ???
5. Profit

I can't see the allure of these single cup things. Maybe in an office? They do make terrible coffee. Plus the K-Cups are expensive and each machine has it's own proprietary cups.

I like the variety, its quick and simple and we enjoy the quiznart we got for xmas.

is there anything wrong with brewing two cups using 1 k-cup?

I wouldn't do it for two separate cups, the second will come out much weaker. Nothing wrong with doing it to make one large cup of coffee though, that what I do since my coffee is in a 12oz cup. It won't double as paint thinner but it's not water either.

"Keurig" itself doesn't make coffee, the roasters repackage their coffees for single-serve. The closest to "Keurig" coffee would be their owner Green Mountain, which I've enjoyed way before Keurig became mainstream. There are some brews to avoid though.

Probably makes it too weak, though I haven't experimented. It would cost me a minimum of $5 a day to drink coffee from a Keurig

I doubt it would cost you $5 per day = 10 brewed k-cups.

FWIW, when I drank drip coffee I would drink an entire 12 cup pot, at least, a day. I've gone from that to 3-4 kcups a day. I feel like the keurig brewed coffee is stronger, closer to a latte style coffee with espresso than gravity drip thus I tend to need/drink less of it.

Coffee is a food commodity, like bread or milk. Why would you pay a 30% markup because it comes in a plastic cup?

Its just marketing. What next individually packaged bread slices? Lmao They would last longer, but $5 a loaf. Seem retarded? So is this shit. They only get away with it because it is "gourmet coffee" whatever that happens to be in their book. Is it even 100% arabica?

You know what makes good gourmet coffee? Grinding it yourself, lol. One of the many reasons starbucks actually serves pretty good coffee but you save some real dough making it yourself, like $200 a month. So really, coffee in a plastic cupie is gourmet?

WOW!!! Already?

Green Mountain Coffee bought them and the rights in 2005 iirc [/edit: was 2006], but only lately has it really taken off. Supposedly they don't make money on the machines but a lot off their crappy k-cup coffee packets.

I've had this problem with my original Keurig from time to time, but usually I unplug, go through the water reservoir removal and refill process and it's good to go.

Also, Dunkin Donuts K-Cups were completely disappointing. Donut Shop is my favorite one, not to be confused with the Donut House brand. Plus, I love that the emblem on the K-Cup reminds me of a big, Homer Simpson style donut.

Their flavored coffees suck as do their "cappucinos" but I had a cup of Caribou the other day that was actually quite good.

How does one drink a cup of giant Canadian animal.....oh.....nvm

I drink a minimum of 1 10 cup pot of coffee per day, and sometimes 2 pots. I'd drink $1.50 of kcup coffee before I even left the house. My $5 estimate was conservative, and would most likely be higher.

The B60 we have has been pretty reliable. I like my Keurig. I drink regular coffee, not flavored, and it tastes good enough for me. I like the Newman's Own, Donut Shop, and the Green Mountain darker roasts. I usually only make one cup of coffee a day at home when I work from home 3 days a week, so for that it's perfect for me.

I've had to get mine from Costco replaced once for a problem that couldn't be resolved via all the steps customer service had me try.

They were very quick to replace it though and even sent me a few boxes of any pods of my choice.

Second one has done the same thing very recently a few times but I've thankfully been able to get it working again unlike the last unit.

For me the issue is sometimes you hit brew and it acts like its going to but nothing comes out.

Often removing and reseating the water tank and opening and closing the top and maybe getting it a bit of a bump with the top of my hand on the top will kick it into brewing.

At least I know if it fails again I can get it replaced again and if they won't help me directly I can always take it back to Costco for a exchange.

To add to the above, for me, it's worth having.

I brew 1 cup of coffee on average a day Mon-Fri.

On weekends I might brew 2 a day.

I get the box of 80 pods for $34 from Costco of the Donut Shop coffee and think it's just about the closest to Dunkin coffee I've made in the home.

Like some others above said, I would be broke if I used those little cups. Our $30 Proctor-Silex coffee maker has - without exaggeration - cranked out more than 2,000 pots of coffee since we bought it at a cost of maybe 6 cents per cup.

And no waste! Grounds and filter are composted.

A half-pound even of premium coffee will cost less than a small box of K-cups and last much longer. But what replaces it is that some of the adapter setups leak while brewing.

That's what I'd do if I had one. My parents have a Keurig and I don't find the cups to be strong enough for larger than a small diner size cup. I'd want to pack more of my own grounds in there and make a larger cup.

Im kind of a coffee snob, prefer my own ground (in a burr grinder, of course) and Im considering getting one. Why? Although I drink about a pot in the morning, there are times in the mid day or evening I just want one cup. Also, the wife likes some of the flavored ones and she's not a big coffee drinker. I think for people like me, getting the reusable filter for it and loading it with my own coffee is ideal.

I have Tassimo. T-discs are not easy to come by in stores (but plenty either at Amazon or Tassimo direct), and I like the coffee it makes.

This is what I do with my Kuerig. I use my own grounds most of the time and is okay but not better than the K-Cups IMO.

I drink all kinds of coffee from all kinds of drip systems at friends/church or wherever I am at. Most of them are not good at all in fact most coffee is bad at best and probably due to the machine/type of coffee being used.

I'm wondering if part of the reason people don't like the idea of a Keurig (or Tassimo etc), is simply due to not knowing about the K-Cup filter accessory that you can get. We typically buy a box or two when we see them come on sale in specific flavours we like, but for the most part, we just grind our preferred bean, use the filter, and can each have our preferred flavour in the morning. Drip coffee price, but the convenience of a Keurig.

I think the only thing we miss about not having a larger drip machine is for after dinner when we have company over... Wouldn't go back to a drip machine for day to day use though.

We bought a Keurig Platinum model earlier in 2011. It worked fine for about 6 months, at which point it stopped brewing. We used nothing but filtered water in it.

Keurig sent us a replacement immediately. I was still surprised that I had that issue with it so quickly after purchasing it though.
