KEYBOARD CLEANING?

My Keyboard keys that i use for gaming seem to be sticking. I havent spilt anything so i think they need just a general cleaning.

How would i go about doing that?

Its a spill resistent keyboard so could i just pour some soap water onto the keys?

I dont think "spill resistant" means waterproof. I would find somone with an air compressor and blow it out. canned air is weak. Any very sticky keys can be popped off with a screwdriver(carefully) and clean the spring and or membrane.

The good IBM keyboards like the 42H1292 (The one I use) can be completely taken apart and ran through a dishwasher (no soap, everything except for the circuit board) and then let dry.

I think i may just try to take it apart and see how well i can clean it like that

I will warn you, Dyslexic Dog's rule on keyboards: The cheaper the keyboard the harder it is to put back together.

I spent a good 5 hours putting back together a Focus keyboard after taking it apart. It had three or more little hooks for each key that I had to get in place. It did work after I got it all back together. I swear never to do that again. That time it became a battle between me and the keyboard to get it put back together and even though it was extremely frustrating I just had to do it.

Works for me....take it apart, spray and scrub with 409, rinse and air dry, then reassemble.

yeap I did like dszd0g I took my old MS Natural apart and put everyhting in the diswasher except for the circuit and was fine.

I'd like to know what kind of Lube you need to put on though. maybe some sort of Teflon lubricant or something any comments.

Yep, most keyboards can be taken apart. I do it all the time with the newer cheap ones. I'm not sure I can take apart the one i'm using now. It's an old Dell keyboard, that's really loud (i love it), and weighs freakin like 10lbs.

Don't use water, including cleaners that contain water, because with some keyboard designs the water can remain trapped for days and cause corrosion. This is especially true of keyboards that use a rubber membrane or foam-backed foil pads for the key switches. Instead use electronics spray cleaner, which will evaporate completely and won't harm plastics. CRC Electronics Parts Cleaner ($4/11 oz, auto parts and hardware stores) and Radio Shack Cleaner/Degreaser ($8/6 oz) are suitable products. Alcohol is also safe, rovided it's at least 90% pure. Regular 70% alcohol contains too much water.

i like canned air. i use this almost every other day just to maintain.

Is there a reason you had to YELL about it?

Try cleaning it out with some canned air (it has a light electronics cleaning aerosol in it). Failing that take it apart clean with alcohol or electronics spray then reassemble.
