keyboard for gaming

I am trying to sort out a keyboard most important for gaming.

I am looking at this one

does anyone know how long the cord is perhaps someone has it. Also how many keys can take input at the same times. This can be a major problem I have seen keyboards that can only take input from 3 keys which is not good for gaming when many times you can have all 5 fingers inputing at the same time.

Logitech Elite if you want lots of extra keys.

Logitech Ultra if you want a laptopish keyboard. (i type faster on this).

well that logitech ultra looks ok. how long is the cord on it?
It really annoys me that that info is not standard with specs I have a liteon 5$ keyboard and i love it but the cord is just too short.

I also have a $5 liteon keyboard. I like it more than any Logitech I've ever used. But then, I hate extra function keys everywhere.

The feel of the liteon is really nice. It's a black one, found on Newegg.

Got mine for $14 at Directron. One of the best keyboards I've used yet.

Natural keyboards are bad for FPS games. I would recommend a Microsoft Internet Explorer Pro keyboard or a Logitech Elite. Both are highly recommended. I've heard good reviews about the new Saitek gaming keyboard but no personal experience with it.

Whatever you do do not fall for one of those keyboards made for gaming...becuase they are low quality and usually always suck and cannot be used for gaming....

Go with any logitech or microsoft one and youll be happy, i have the microsoft one with the thumb print recognizer(i couldnt resist) and love it, great for CS becuase of the comfort and the layout, and it makes for better smoother gameplay...it has a 6 key input at once, ive never gone past that in games...

why not use a "regular KB" and something like a Belkin Nostromo just for gaming?

I am really stuck on a normal keyboard IBM layout. Thats what I want. Not a special one for gaming. I have read many reviews of gaming specific keyboards and never opted for one because I have heard of quality issues which is very sad considering they were made for the most demanding of keyboarders.

I am going to try the logitech elite because one review I read said it could handle 5 key input. Which comes back to JoLim24601 comment they are not just keyboards they can have drawbacks that make gaming on them hell. Not all keyboards can handle input from many keys and do it fast. I have seen both logitech and microsoft keyboards with this problem. If you are playing a really simple like CS you probably will not run into the problem often or you will be able to adapt, but some games like HL2DM require you to constantly be pressing 5 keys at once and there is no way you can enjoy the game if 2 of the inputs are not working. The speed and response of the keys is also important for all games.

Saitek makes good stuff but their "gamers" keyboard is impractical, but their new keyboard the Eclipse I think looks really cool, Tom's Hardware has a good review.

I am also a heavy gamer and bought the Logitech Elite to start with. It's a good keyboard, but I never used all the extra buttons, which made it bigger than it needed to be. The usb connection was nice and all, but it become a problem when reformatting/installing windows. Many motherboards (probably not the newer ones) won't recognize a usb keyboard until everything is set up.

Now I'm using a Microsoft Internet Keyboard that I'm happy with. Just a standard layout, but it's durable and can handle at least 5 keys at once (just did a makeshift test). This keyboard has around 6 ft. of cable, don't remember on the Elite though.

Unless you want all the extra buttons and features, don't spend over $20 and stick to the Logitech or Microsoft ones.

I have the Saitek Gamer's keyboard and I really like it. I really like the backlit keyboard for night gaming, and the keys are finger sex (and seem durable). I have gotten no use out of the extra gaming attachment yet. BTW I play HL2: DM, CS:S, and WoW.

I completely agree, "the keys are finger sex" They are much quieter and less mushy than my sister's Logitech Elite. Here's my opinion on the Saitek Gamer's Keyboard:


Pros:
-Looks awesome, especially at night, very sleek and uncluttered
-It feels very sturdy
-Keys are very quiet
-Buttons feel very good, they aren't mushy like the Logitech Elite
-Backlight can be turned off if you don't want it on, plus it has 2 brightnesses
-Command pad is VERY useful and easy to program
-Very comfortable with removeable/adjustable wrist pad
-Full sized keyboard, unlike some other lighted keyboards
-Extra large space bar

Cons:
-Takes up a lot of desk space with the Command pad
-No media keys besides mute/volume, but that might not be a bad thing for some people
-Letters on the keys don't light up (Saitek has the Eclipse board sans Command pad that has solves this)
-USB only, but that's probably because they need to power the LEDs

I got a Logitech Media Keyboard, and it's more than enough for my gaming needs. I also like the extra buttons eventhough I don't use all of them. The keyboard is comfortable to use and has been good so far. I got it for 15$.

heh I wish i could agree with the people who said they are just keyboards but jsut as I said you are totally wrong. I just got my logitech ultra in the mail today. I opened it up plugged it in had a good cord size, keys felt nice, everything looked great. So i booted up HL2DM and played. I had some trouble jumping with the new keys then I realized I just wasted all that money. The keyboard cannot take more then 3 keys being held down at a time. Now I am stuck with a worthless keyboard. So i wonder did the person who reccomend it ever use it in game or did logitech change the specs? Too bad I am really disappointed total waste of money and I am back at the begining no good keyboard.

Does anyone know if there are any settings to get a keyboard to take at least 5 inputs at a time?
