Im not looking for anything too crazy but i recently bought a new computer and i chose this set...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16823109048

its really not that bad but the keyboard i very loud and the mouse is nothing special, so i am now looking for some suggestions.

the only real requirement is that the keyboard needs to be quiet, thats about it

thanks in advance

I personally love the Logitech pro 2800. It comes with the Logitech MX620 mouse. Don't know if it will fit your requirement of silent keyboard though. Its not super loud but I wouldn't consider it silent. Newegg has it but it can be had for less if you look around.

I dunno about quiet keyboards, but I've tried a few mice and you can't really go wrong with a razor copperhead or logitech g9. both are fingertip mice, and I prefer the g9 mainly because of the 2 extra buttons in the scroll wheel when pushing it left or right (set to change songs in winamp while I'm gaming ). Many people recommend the razor deathadder, which is a larger full palming mouse which I don't like, and it has a huge liftoff distance which doesn't work for me as I lift the mouse often while gaming. Another advantage to the G9 is the mousecord is braided nylon and is pretty much weightless (you can get it to stick way up in the air if you bend it good) and is as close to cordless as you can get without cutting the cord.

well quiet keyboard means you can try the ABS M1, mouse i will go with G9 if you are high sensitivity or Deathadder if you low sensitivity (the new black mamba or something if you have cash). If you want something special u can try the boomslang 2007, a warning though it's an acquired taste for high sensitivity user.

the ABS M1 seems overpriced considering the lack of features, id rather not pay that much for a standard keyboard

I just bought the logitech illuminated KB, I love it. It is the quietest KB I've used. It is quieter than my thinkpad and better to the touch. My typing speed it better, and the dead flatness of it helps the old carpal tunnel. I bought it at staples.com after getting a $25 off $75 coupon for $2 on ebay. Total $59 shipped. Best money ever spent.

illuminated keyboard

And...it perfectly matches my new Samsung monitor with the clear plastic surround.

How about an N-key rollover board with tactile brown Cherry mechanical switches? I like this one myself. The switches are non-clicky so they're quiet, it's built like a tank, its compact so no wasted space...unless you like spending money on all that cheap squishy key LED bling that everyone else is pushin that breaks after 3 months

You're paying for quality switches that should outlast your next five cheap logitechs.

Exactly. If you care at all about quality instead of quantity, then the M1 is an excellent choice. But if you prefer bling instead of quality, then go with Logitech.

After 3 years, my $10 logitech keyboard's working just as well as the day I got it, even after I spilled a glass of orange juice in it. Do the cheap logitechs have a history of wearing down quickly or something?

It's a rubber dome board. It's going to die much sooner than a mechanical or buckling spring board. Three years isn't a long time for a keyboard. Consider that I have an original IBM Model M keyboard from 1988 that works as good as the day it was made.

Also, quality switches provide much better tactile feedback and feel. If you're a professional writer, programmer or touch typist, or if you care about quality, once you use a mechanical or buckling spring board, you'll never be able to use a cheap rubber dome board again. It's like switching from $9 payless shoes to a quality pair of handmade italian leather shoes. Not only do they feel tremendously better, they'll last for years without falling apart and you can get them repaired fixed up. Nobody in their right mind would take $9 payless shoes to a cobbler.

Have you used a high quality keyboard before? It's the kind of thing you don't really appreciate until you have one and use it every day. Once you do it, typing on a regular membrane board suddenly feels pathetic and awful.

in additional to the long life, the allure of those mechanical switch is actually the resistance curve. with the rubber dome, when you type it initially gives you 100% resistance and then once you pass that point of no return the resistance will be nearly all gone and you end up bottoming out the keys all the time. With the buckle spring and the alps, the change of the resistance are more linear and when it pass the point of no return, it decreases mildly, but doesn't collapse all the way. This way you don't need to bottom out every key when you are typing. It doesn't matter in FPS games because you are gonna bottom out in either case, but when you are typing fast, you will start to appreciate the reduced efforts required on the bs or alps keyboard.

Absolutley. That's why I can type 10-30 wpm faster on a proper buckling spring board and writing is actually enjoyable. The keys bounce against my fingers as if to say "ready for the next letter!" It's punchy and responsive and the tactile feedback makes the experience crisp. Another good analogy would be to drive a car with a loose crunchy clutch that you have to jam into gear vs. driving a car with a very smooth and refined clutch. A good clutch allows you to drive as if the car is an extension of your body; a good keyboard allows you to write as if your keyboad is an extension of your mind and hands.

Keyboard: Enermax Aurora Premium. Scissor switches beat all the Logitechs I've ever used/tried, aluminum finish just screams quality.
Mouse: Razer Diamondback 3G for claws, DeathAdder and Logitech MX518 for palms. Could never get used to Lachesys despite my freakish long fingers.
