My son claims his laptop keyboard is not working. Have no idea how this could happen. Anything goes with kids.
It is a Toshiba Satelite C55-B5356 with windows 8.1 - 64 bit.
Some interesting notes on preliminary troubleshooting:
(1) When I restart, the keyboard works to enter the pin code/password before entering windows 8.1 (suggesting it is not a hardware issue). As soon as I log into windows, the keyboard no longer works.
(2) I tried connecting a no-frills basic logitech corded USB keyboard. As soon as I restart, the logitech keyboard works to enter the pin/password for windows. But as soon as I log in to windows, this logitech keyboard does not do anything either. (I assumed this might use a different driver than the laptop keyboard and would work)
So I think this is some kind of driver issue.
On several occasions, various components have become disabled (e.g., touchpad) because certain keys are accidentally hit. Is it possible to "disable" the keyboard only within windows via some sort of key? That doesn't seem to be the issue since the logitech keyboard doesn't work either. But just trying to rule out all possibilities.
If its a driver issue, how do I resolve it?
(1) on the Toshiba support site, there seem to be a lot of drivers so I filtered by "keyboard" and got these options. Should I install one or both of them?

(2) Or is there some generic windows 8.1 keyboard driver that I need? I am surprised that the separate USB logitech keyboard does not work when I plug it in. Does that suggest that its a windows keyboard driver issue (not a toshiba driver issue)?
