Keyboard won't work in XP. Edit: Problem Solved

My parents system got that lovesan worm. I cleaned it out with Mcafee virusscan and cleared out the registry entry for it. However sometime while it was infected they disabled the keyboard somehow. It works in the bios but it won't work in windows. It's a ps/2 generic keyboard. Mouse is usb so that works. I tried copying the keyboard drivers over from my computer, I checked their registry for those files against mine and it's fine, tried reinstalling the keyboard drivers, no go. It always says the driver is loaded but it can't find the hardware.
The board is an Asus CUSL2 with a celery 600 fcpga if that helps any.

Install the MS RPC patch, run fixblast.exe then uninstall the keyboard. Keyboard drivers should be reloaded. See other threads for links.

also, if you're trying to work on the machine w/o a keyboard, you can go to start--> run--> and type in OSK. a keyboard will appear onscreen and you can click the keys you need with the mouse (or even set it up so that they key is registered when you simply hover over it with the mouse). it might make things easier while working on it.

Find the on-screen keyboard in Programs -> Accessories -> Accessibility.

Try removing the drivers, rebooting, and having windows detect the keyboard again. Otherwise you can try a system restore or repair the OS via CD/floppy.

there. much better. it looks like i fell victim to one of the classic blunders... "never go against a sicilian when death is on the line". or maybe it's "think first, type second." never can remember which.

I can type in the computer over pcanywhere, just the keyboard doesn't work on their end. I'll try the fixblast and see if that does anything. I've also heard there is a possibility the keyboard controller on the board is flaky and will work in bios but not in windows. Anyone ever hear of this?

Problem Solved!

Even though it was a windows XP system and it was not a new pcanywhere installation, this was the problem:
Keyboard and Mouse Do Not Work After You Install PcAnywhere

Hours of searching and trying things only to find that was the problem.
