I was buying a 256 MB SODIMM for my laptop when I noticed this deal in the clearance section. Since USPS shipping is a fixed $5, I figured that I could use some extra keychain material around my house, and added the lot of 50 SIMMs to my order.

It's also payback for charging $5 to ship a 15 gram SODIMM module.

Hmm...perhaps I'll piece these 50 together for letters on a dorky sign. Oh, I'm sure people can think of much geekier things to do with them though.

ah brings back wonderful memories of my first time holding 4 of these in my hand, then I later upgraded to 8 of them...
and the pain of how much I paid back then, along with my 80 meg(not typo) harddrive.

parity... hehehe... 9 chips > 8 chips

And I do think that you can just buy those by themselves. I just tacked them to an existing order.

wait a minute, that would be sweet to get some sort of rack and plug all this ram in and that would be some cheap ram. I guess you would really need ram and really have time and really not have the money for it.

I believe the edges are a bit sharp on those, so, if you keep your keys in your pocket it's probably not the best keychain material. Maybe encased in some clear plastic like material?

1024 of these would only be $61.44. Any motherboards that have 1024 Slots for RAM? Oh why be greedy, 512 would do I s'pose.

We must have had the same 386DX computer! I paid $160+shipping for 4 of these bad boyz back in the day! In my current machine I have a 512MB stick of PC133 that I paid $70 for! (sigh)
At one time when the *new* 72 pin DIMMS were coming up there was a goofy device that would let you plug in 4 SIMMS and plug that mess into a 72 pin DIMM slot. A cheap 4MB memory stick. Ahh the good old days!

I actually sold some of these as a techno necklace @ a shop on Melrose street in Hollywood. Retail Slut.
People actually bought them for 8 bucks. Just took the sharp bits down to smooth with a dremmel, some waxed string and ... viola
That was a while back when 1 meg sims were almost worthless instead of pretty much worthless.
How about a SIMMgerbread house for Christmas???
Shouldn't they be selling them by weight by now. A pound for x amount of chips.

thanks for the good 'ol day post
if you are old enough, you remember having 8 megs and being proud of it

Damn... they have 4mb 30pin simms cheap too... I can finally max out my 486/33! it has 8 1mb simms in there now, for which I paid nearly $600 back in 1991 (which was a decent deal as the going rate for 80ns pairty in computer shopper was $100 a mb).

I too have one of these as a keychain... it works god a cheap way to say "I'm a nerd!" Ok, now to use my P60 CPU as a rear view mirror ornament.
