There are reports at FW that the PD drives are indeed being subbed for $69.xx at OM. If that's the case, I may PM my PD that I bought there last week!

That is interesting, all the PD are out of stock at local Store, how can it be substituted? Anyone knows any store that still has one?

That's why it's YMMV.

Some still have PD in stock, most don't have any (like my local).

My OM (Green Bay) still has the PD 8x drives. But they also have the advertised Khypermedia drive, so no offers of substituyion yet.

Wally Kid:

Does the face plate look like this:

http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Art...cleHeadline=Cyberdrive+DX082D+DVD+RW&Series=0

(Looking at the face plate, you have the eject button on the right with the drive light to the left slightly off center)

or this:

http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Art...ticleHeadline=BenQ+DRW800A+8x+DVD+RW&Series=0

(Looking at the face plate, you have the eject and track change/play button on the right with volume wheel, drive light, and headphone jack on the left)

I like to know because at the last sale couple of weeks ago, it was the Cyberdrive. I am interested in getting a Benq drive.

It looks like the second one, however it does not have the track change/play button. The other looks the same other than the Logo. It is very similar. Even the speed is the same. 8x 4x 12x, and it uses seamless link. The back looks exactly the same. I don't know if its the same drive, but might be very similar. Why would you wan the BenQ drive? My impression of BenQ is not really on the positive side.

I like to know because at the last sale couple of weeks ago, it was the Cyberdrive. I am interested in getting a Benq drive. well the review does show that it outperforms LITE ON....suprisingly. I don't know what to think.

Do you mean you actually have the headphone jack and volume control wheel on the left side when looking at the faceplate?

The reasons I prefer the Benq are the based on the review at the said site as well as the possibilities of using Qvideo (direct from DV camcorder to DVD) and, most importantly, booktype setting.

Did you install the drive already? If you use Windows, may be you can check using the Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager/right click and select properties.

Eagerly awaiting your update...

Does the box say 32x/24x or 24x/10x for CDR/CDRW write on the outside? Does it come with Nero?

I don't know how Qvideo works, and i don't know what booktype setting...but when my roommate installs it, i will update. But i don't think he is going to install it in this couple of days.

Qvideo is an utility that supposedly would download the video directly from DV camcorder thru IEEE1394 without running another application. I don't even have a DV camcorder so this is not of importance to me.

Booktype setting supposedly would make the DVD+R disc more compatible with standalone player by identifing the disc as DVD-ROM instead of DVD+R or DVD+RW. Apparently some standaloneplayer don't know how to handle DVD+R/RW.

So does the drive have volume control wheel and headphone jack on the face plate?

Finally got the pictures. Looks like it is the benq drive. Note the volume control wheel and headphone jack on the left. More importantly, note the electrical specifications. They are an exact match of 0.8 and 1.9. I need to camp outside the omax to see if they have another one.
