Kia -- Buy One, Get One Free!

I heard on a local (Peoria, IL) radio station this morning about Kia's newest promotion -- buy a new Kia Sedona minivan (probably at the full MSRP) and get a Kia Rio free. Sedona's list for $20K to $23K plus options; the Rio will be the base trim bare-bones $9995 model.

This appears to be a nationwide promotion, since I saw an article about in on a news website from Toledo, OH.

Note: You will be responsible for paying the sales tax (and title and license fees) on *both* vehicles.

Still, if you were considering buying a Kia Sedona anyway...

Yea...both are crap...

Actually the minivan is not tooo bad. We rented it and it ran fine. The engine design is bought from old design from another company, Mitsu as I remember? Not sure but you can tell as the 3.5L took a lot more gas than most of the more modern engines did. One thing I hated is the lack of logical engineering. The seats fold down but didn't fold down enough to carry cargo you would think it should be able to. The cup holders were plenty but were placed in an awkward position.

I never understood why the Honda Ody when it came out; there was a waiting list for it. I suggested my parents to get a T&C but after driving in the Ody; it's the best minivan I have driven for sure.

They're not bad cars for people looking for something very economical, and getting a car for free is certainly a "hot deal" for those looking at Kia's anyways

Kia is a subsidiary of Hyundai, and I would be VERY SURPRISED if they were selling the Sedona at MSRP. I've seen this deal advertised locally, and they always price the Sedona above MSRP to cover the cost of the free car.

In the end, you are probably paying almost exactly the same amount you would pay for each car if you bought them seperately and haggled the price below MSRP.

Yes, I agree that nothing is free and that you will likely not get the Sedona at MSRP. By the way isn't Hyundai and Kia owned by the same parent company? I didn't that Kia was a sub of Hyundai, just a sister company... Anyways, both Hyundai and Kia are starting to gain some ground and reliablilty is getting better. They are priced low enough that people are starting to look at them a lot more. I myself probably would not buy one. At least not now. I would wait a few years to ensure that the reliability issue has been addressed. Who knows, maybe they'll be the next Honda... Hondas weren't exactly great cars when they started out and American cars were pretty much junk in the mid eighties. I think that quality accross the board is getting better so maybe Hyundai and Kia are on track as well... We'll see I guess. Good deal for those looking for a Kia I guess.

Yeah, Hyundai is an above average car company in build quality and reliability that continues to get better.

They'll be eating into Honda and Toyota's profitability very soon. And it wouldn't surprise me to see both quality and price jump exponentially in the next two years or so.

Japan should watch their back in the economy market, while eating up the American market for trucks/luxury vehicles and giving the Germans a reason to stay on their toes.

Kia? Eh, not so much.

Agreed 100%. If it were a Hyundai Sonata, a Toyota Corolla or something like that then it'd be a pretty hot deal.

I would NOT own a kia. I'm in the automotive industry, and you don't want to know how many of these things I see break down. I've seen plenty of 2005 KIAs that are problematic, so it isn't just older ones.

There we go. JucyLucy has spoken.

Offtopic: Is it possible to just go ahead and change JucyLucy's "member status" right now to "Official threadcrapper" ??

You're not getting the car for free. You probably pay full MSRP on the Sedona to get the free Rio. I see Sedonas advertised with $5k-6k in rebates and discounts and Rios advertised for $8k. It might be a little better deal than taking the rebates on the Sedona, but not much. Lincoln Mercury did this a few years ago to move some slow selling models. Free Cougar with a (I think) LS or Blackwood.
