I wouldn't mind the collective opinion of fellow nerds on my next buying decision. Is the Kia Rio a piece of trash or a great buy?

If you're not into racing or surviving car accidents it's a good car. Cheap with a good warranty. Great gas mileage. Probably better for city driving than any significant highway driving.

I would suggest looking at the Hyundai Elantra GLS.

What I hear about Kias is that they have a great warantee (10 years, 100k), but the car will be in every two months you own it for warantee work. More trouble than it's worth.

my folks one time had a kia as a rent a car...i drove it around...at freeway speeds, it lagged and started to shake.....and handling @ freeway speeds are horrible...ii felt extremely vulnerable when driving it in the freeway or @ high speeds down a street....it was the kia sedan car...forgot what's it called...

I test drove a used one that had about 7,000 miles on it. The thing clunked more than my Ford Ranger with 140,000 miles on it.

My mom and my girlfriend's mom both own Sportages. Complete crap.
They're incredibly underpowered (seriously, merging on the highway is frightening) and the build quality is laughably bad.

Maybe Kia has come a long way in the last 3 years, I don't know. They had nowhere to go but up.

Get the Kia Spectra. Not only does it look cheap, it sounds cheap.
