Kick Ass 2- Great movie

Saw an advanced screening.
great movie!

2 little gripes:

1)

Hit Girl got neutered.
Kick Ass calls, saying he needs help. She says she cant talk to him because she's grounded. *Click*
and of course something bad happens.

WTF?! cant help him because she's grounded?!?! WTFBBQ!

2)

in the final fight scene, why dont any of the dozens of bad guys have guns?!
the only person that had a gun was Hit Girl.

And her fight scene was stupid, unfortunately.
but its also great because she doesnt high jack the movie and save the day.

3)

one of the heroes gave his origin as his parents were mugged and killed as they were coming out of the opera.
lol.. surprised DC comics aint sueing for copyright infringement. Hello Batman?

since it's a Marvel movie, they pay homage to Stan Lee.
also since it's a marvel movie, theres a scene after the credits.

The coffee shop where they saw the first fight in the first movie is not too far from me.

I've never actually been there. It doesn't look too inviting, and apparently it's been popular in the past for drug deals behind it.

But yeah, I'm looking forward to Kick-Ass 2.

I may miss the main theatre run though, because I'll be on vacation in the Bahamas. Yeah, it sucks to be me.

I'm hoping this movie is good! I remember not knowing much about the original as I don't think I saw any trailers or watched the comics, but I still went to a midnight showing (for some reason). I should have known that starting the movie off with a song by The Prodigy was a good indication of the upcoming awesomeness, but I didn't take heed until John Murphy's tracks (song name has a spoiler in it for the original movie!) were apparent! I actually noticed it during the scene with Big Daddy in the warehouse as it was just a remix of "In the House, In a Heartbeat", "Leaving England", and "Don Abandons Alice". Yeah... he really loves that song!

Anyway! I hope they have a slight-earlier-than-midnight showing of Kick-Ass 2.

Eh, I hate to say it, but as much as I really liked the original movie, I just didn't care for Kick-Ass 2. The first half of the movie was just pretty boring overall, and it was made worse by how the majority of the good scenes in the first half were in the trailers. I had a feeling that I would end up disappointed when I saw that John Murphy was credited as the composer as he did the first movie's score. What made it worse is that it sounded like they really tried to copy Murphy's style with the slow piano-based openings.

Some thoughts...

• My favorite part was probably when

  Dave's dad turned himself in as Kick-Ass. I didn't really expect it at first, but I liked the sentiment that it gave. Honestly, the best part about comic book movies is when someone acts heroic, and it's hard to beat sacrifice as a true mark of a hero.
• Pretty much everything involving Mindy (Hit Girl) and the popular girls was just awkward. The worst was probably the dance try-outs scene (shown briefly in the trailers). The blonde popular girl dances rather seductively, and you know she isn't legal. So, you end up feeling rather pervy just watching it. I looked it up on IMDB, and she's 17 -- so close!
• I sat through the whole movie thinking, "Man! That one popular girl looks really familiar!" Turns out that I've never seen her before, but I was actually confusing her with Leighton Meester. It's crazy how much the girl in the movie looks like a slightly younger Leighton.

I like the movie overall. I went into it expecting to see some ass kicking, thus I wasn't disappointed.

Yes, the part with the cool girls was a bit of wasted cinema, I agree. But the fight at the end

I think the problem for me was that most of that ass kicking occurred after

, which was rather late into the movie. Also, the van scene was awesome, but the majority of it was shown in the trailers! I really just need to stop watching trailers for movies that I know I will see, but I always see them in front of movies at the theater anyway. I think I've seen the new Thor 2 trailer three times in front of a movie already (including Kick-Ass 2).

And Lindy Booth as Night Bitch was just freaking hot.

There's a huge fight between the villains and heroes on the streets. The cops don't care who is good or bad and arrests indiscriminately. Hit Girl and some heroes go to jail along with the MFer while KickAss regroups with the rest of heroes. The citizens know who the REAL heroes are but the cops don't care/are corrupt. The corrupt cop takes in HG into custody.

There was also some Hit Girl comic which transitions KA1 to KA2 and I assume was in the KA2 movie. In that one,

it shows how the Red Myst/MFer tried to train in 'martial arts' and other things to be a badass/Batman but he finds out in the end it's just better to use a gun and buy thugs who can beat people up for him.

I really wanted to like this movie. I liked the first one and enjoyed the books. This movie however was sloppy, and very boring. Most of the jokes are stupid, and the movie pulls it's punches

While I didn't expect it to follow the books closely, the pulled the rape and the dog death. Personally I'm OK with not seeing the dog's head on the guy's body but it neutered the movie. I can't care about the villains when they just kind of putz around.

. It was almost like this movie didn't know what to do with itself. The actress that plays Hit Girl has grown up too much to have the same impact. That doesn't stop the movie from attempting to try it again. The changes they made because she's grown up were pointless and honestly only dragged the movie out. By the time we have a point to it all it's so far into the movie I wondered why they bothered. It even ends pointless. It's really sad.. I really wanted to like this, and it's just another example of while it works on page it doesn't always work when acted.

I think that once your humor includes projectile vomit and/or shit, you've crossed over into Adam Sandler territory ...and I don't mean Billy Madison or Happy Gilmore.

Hmm at least the script was "aware" that they were changing those parts as they were usually referenced or turned into something slightly different.

The biggest fans see it first. The user rating will go down.

The first one was Critics 77% and Audience 80%. So critics in general liked the first one.

I kind of lost interest in the 2nd one when they changed the screenwriter and director, from Matthew Vaughn, who's never directed a bad movie, to Jeff Wadlow, who's never made a good movie.
