Good luck if you get sued.

if he didn't sign a contract, then yes, you CAN just kick someone out like that.

not true in most states...esp if the person has been living there more than 1 month.

I'd bet 20:1 that this old roommate isn't going to sue about a damn thing. That's not how people like this individual operate.

If he tries, defend yourself right and get a lawyer. That will be a small expense compared to the stress and hassle of being sued. Meet the lawyer a few times, and show up in court. Other than that, you keep living your life, never worrying about your defense during the rest of the time.

My last roommate was a stripper. She was hot, and always paid her rent in cash. Of course it was in sweaty, stinky, one dollar bills...

Sounds like you enjoyed every minute of it.

I bet she left after getting tired of the constant staring and drool stains...

Actually, she moved out when she found out I had a threeway with her twin sister and her best friend...

Just deny that he ever lived there. Technically he never did since his name isn't on the lease. There's nothing he can do about it even if he wants.
Even if he has bills there, you can just say you received his mail as a service to a friend.

Yeah, and just kill the witnesses and neighbors who saw him live there for the past few months eh?

you are completely right and a lot of people in this thread don't know wtf they're talking about. tenants have rights, regardless of lease or contract or deadbeat status. you have to go through the eviction process. this guy may get away clean but depending on the state may be open for a lawsuit.

For all those ppl saying "sue sue sue", that'll probably never happen in that situation. Heck, my friend was on the recieving end of almost the exact same thing. He didn't end up doing jack to the ppl that kicked him to the curb (because they didn't want him living there) for the smiple reason that it all takes time and more importantly money. He was flat broke, or nearly so. Kind of like the room mate.

If anything, personal revenge is way more likely than anything legal.

Oh, and Vonkhan, you Canadian? Sounds like it.

Edit: Just saw the resolution. Good to know it had a nice ending and all. Still, the guy got what he deserved. Good to see you stuck to your guns in kicking him to the curb.

Around 8:30am I hear a loud banging on the door and guess who it is

Why, its my dear beloved roomie!

He wants to know why all his stuff is out on the sidewalk - and when I tell him the reasons and he gets even madder, threatening to f*ck me up, gonna call his people yada yada yada. My dog's going crazy (gets excited when people yell, stupid dog) and some of the neighbours are wondering what all the commotion is abput (see mad roomie, see stuff on sidewalk - do the math!)

At this point, I excuse myself and take a couple of steps backwards and pick up the phone and take two steps forwards and tell him that if he doesn't get off my front porch - I'd FIRST call the INS, then the cops. Dude flips out, goes totally dramatic and punches ... the wall Maybe the pain cleared up his head or something, but he turns and walks away, leaving all his stuff on the sidewalk.

So, I get my rear back in bed (hey, I was up nearly till 6:00am fixing those locks!) and it feels so good ... when ...

KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK *RRRRRRRRRRRRRING* *RRRRRRRRRRRRRING* *RRRRRRRRRRRRRING* KNOCK KNOCK

aaaargh, I need my sleep but hello! its already 10:15am?!

My roomie's back at the door, crying and wailing his eyeballs out - doesn't have a place to stay, eveidently lost one of his part-time jobs a couple of days ago (never told me that before), no money ... the entire sob story

eh :S thanks for the tear-jerker story dude, but u cant stay here any more ... too much sh!t has already happened.

Called up my boss at the International Programs/Student Life Office and explained the situation to him. They're gonna put him in a dorm room for a couple of days and try to find a host family for him. One of the university's shuttle vans just picked him up a few minutes ago.

I still have his computer

AHAHAHA good job, congrats for getting rid of that loser.
