Any basic bios settings or anything i need to worry about when i get it all together for the first time?

The only setting that you need to check before installing Windows is to make sure that the SATA controller(s) are in AHCI mode. Everything else can be left at defaults and/or tweaked after you've got the system up and running.

Going to order the Biostar B75MU3+ and the seasonic power supply today from newegg. Going to wait a few days to see if a deal pops up on a HD, and will pick up the case locally this week and processor from microcenter.

Pretty sure the high prices are due to flooding, not gouging.

The flooding was half a year ago. Pretty sure they've kept the prices up just because they can and it's profitable. People need hard drives.

hmmm I heard it would take at least a year for production to reach pre flooding levels. maybe I miss remember.

Edit: This article says the prices of HDD's are expected to remain high throughout 2012 due to supply constraints.

This one is interesting and supports what you and sm625 said. It says that top tier HDD manufactures are working together to keep HDD prices artificially high, at least until 2014. So it looks like you were right.

I agree. The HDD market had been in a free-fall for years before the Thailand floods. Now the HDD market has been effectively "reset" to a higher price. The new normal as it were. I don't think the two extant HDD manufacturers are going to repeat the mistakes of the past and re-engage in an all-out price war.
