kids playing cops and robbers; was i wrong?

so my kid and some of the neighbors kids were playing outside today with toy plastic guns. they were playing cops and robbers...a game we loved alot growing up. the guns were black and gray with an orange tip. i felt bad telling the kids they needed to stop playing with those outside since a real cop may get confused and shoot them dead. what a sad state of affairs we are in now. should i have just let it be? what would u have done? i didn't want to see them get hurt.

I have not heard of that America. By "kids" do you mean yourself, and by "playing cops and robbers" you mean attempting to rob a store?

If not, no, you probably don't need to worry (and yes, I understand there are rare scenarios where people or even kids have gotten shot mistakenly). And if you do feel the need to worry, get your kids NERF guns. They are fun and wouldn't be mistaken for weapons*.

Growing up in Texas we used to kill birds with slingshots. Then we graduated to bows and arrows at summer camps. Then bb guns. Then real guns. Between each upgrade we used to throw rocks/stones at each other. Good times. Now, you can't even think about letting your kids do those things or you'll get a visit from a social worker.

Didn't come to post this but something similar. If you live in a decent neighbourhood then the chances are almost 0 that anything bad will happen. On the other hand if you live in a rough area then the cops are more likely to shoot first ask questions later.

You would think any cop with 3 active brain cells would know what is going on but having seen youtube videos you have no guarantee that a cop in America has met that prerequisite.
