We used to have company meetings. Our company is small, about 8-12 regular employees with a few contracting producers. The execs and owners of the company know very little about actual TV producing, so they rely on the contracting producers.
Anyway, at these meetings they would tell us how important all of us are, how we are a family. Everyone needs to contribute and if anyone comes up with an idea for a show, they'll pursue it. Sounds appropriate being that we're small.
However the meetings came to an end, at least at the office. Now they meetings are at a restaurant every Wednesday, and nobody below the line (editors, coordinators) is invited to the lunch. Even our guy who is supposed to be an in-house producer is regularly ignored and they try to sneak out on him. He has to wait around the door for them to show up and then he asks if they are going to lunch. Reluctantly they say yes and he goes with them. One time recently they all walked out the door passed him without saying anything, even while he was talking to them. They came back inside to get him, but they almost left without him.
I'm just an editor, but the senior editor is never invited. He saves their asses a lot too.
