PuvMan: read review here imaging-resource.

The best recharger are MAHA C204F and Lightning Pack 4000N from RipVan100.

For now, my standard recommendation is still the Maha C204 charger, with one or two Maha 2A4 trickle-charge units to "top off" the batteries. Overall, it still seems that chargers can charge fast, completely, and gently (low battery temperatures), but you can only pick two of the three characteristics. Another good charger seems to be the Lightning Pack 4000N from RipVan100, which is more in the fast/gentle camp, whereas the C204 is in the fast/complete category.

pinky811, till now semitool found a free shipping item, 4 AAA 650mAh 1.2V & 4 AA 1800mAh NiMH Batteries + Smart Charger for $19.99

Just evaluating of the AA's. I've been trying to drain them pretty hard on my digital camera
(Nikon 950) and so far, I haven't been able drain them. It seems like these do last a lot longer
than my other set (old Quest 1500mAh). Anyway, I give these batteries at these prices a
double rolling thumbs up.

I agree with how these look a bland green color but what a great deal One question ,is there any harm in charging all 50 batteries up even if you don`t get around to using some of them for awhile ?

Wanted: 4-6 AAA and 6-8 AA

Did anyone buy a few too many and want to sell me some? If so, please email me (see my profile).

Also, info on recycling your dead rechargeable batteries (NiCd particularly are very damaging to the environment):

http://www.rbrc.org/

Bottom line: Many retail chains should collect recharceable (NiCd, NiMH, and some others) batteries for recycling -- see http://www.rbrc.org/graphics/logos1.gif

Who cares. At less than $1 a piece for 1800mAh batteries, that's a steal. Do you know if this is nationwide or specific to your store?

Seems to be a great deal. Hope someone posts some real world info on these compared to some other well-known batteries.

I have both the Maha C204 charger [from Thomas Distributing] and the RipVan charger. I also have the Sanyo batteries from RipVan and the GP and energizer batteries from Thomas. Just looking at the Thomas site, it looks like they've redone their website and seems harder to navigate than when I was last on it. I think you used to be able to link on just AAA or AA batteries, for example, but now you have to go to a batteries page and choose a brand first. I don't like that. I want to look at all AAA batteries and quickly see their price and maH ratings. boo hoo hoo.

Well, the bottom line is, after a couple months of use of the RipVan and a year of using the Maha is that I don't use the RipVan charger any more. It charges more quickly but not to as full of a capacity. The Sanyo batteries are certainly no better than the GPs, but then again the GPs are a higher capacity. The Sanyos from RipVan always seem to lag the industry when the higher capacities start hitting the markets, so I won't get more Sanyos.

As previously mentioned here by somebody (an imaging-resource link), The Great Battery Shootout is a great review effort.

BTW, as noted by Mark I in the imaging-resource forum related to the Great Battery Shootout, "The 1850mah AA Energizers exist! $11.97 at Wal-Mart. They also have Rayovac NiMH AA's at 1800mah for $10.97. The old Energizers were 1700mah and the old Rayovacs were 1600mah. The Wal-Mart closest me moves stock fairly quickly, but one further away still only has the older batteries. "

I've been very pleased with the Maha charger and the GP and Energizer batteries. Some of my devices need the highest mah rating batteries possible, so I will always buy the highest rating possible. Onward to buy some of the 1850mah Energizers today.

And yes, I have found there are times when I feel have too many batteries - either the discharged batteries keep getting mixed in with the recently charged batteries and I'm always checking them for charge levels or topping them off. Sometimes I open up a device that hasn't been used in a year only to find I had rechargeables in it. Always seem to have batteries strewn about and obviously need to get better organized with all this!

Also, Steve's Digicams also has some great reviews of the chargers at this link. I believe the Maha C204F is still the favorite as it is on the Imaging-Resource's shootout. Also here is a link to Steve's Digicam's page on NiMH batteries and chargers.

I bought 12 AAA and 24 AA. I haven't had a chance to use them yet, so the main question of their value is still out for me. That being said, here is my experience so far:

1. Shipping/Service: D+
The shipping cost them about 1/3 what they charged. Since it was only a couple dollars more, I went ahead and bought 3 Day Select. But since they didn't ship until 5 days later (3 full business days), I ended up paying more for nothing. Thanks, guys. I was able to call and the guy emailed me a tracking number immediately, so the fact that you CAN contact them counts for something. Also, they sent me 700mAh on my AAA order, so that was nice. But since I feel ripped off on the shipping, I'm leaving it at a D.

2. Quality: C-
Many, if not most, of my batteries did not appear to manufactured by consistent standards. The casing (I guess it's plastic) on some of them were not put on perfectly, so some of the batteries had extra plastic on the top. In fact, 2 or 3 had the extra plastic as high as the top of the metal contact, so this *may* affect the batteries' use in some items. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt so far - both my chargers handled them fine.

Also, because of the manufacturing inconsistencies and the general appearance of the batteries, I doubt these are unbranded PowerEx.

So all in all, I'd call this a Very Good deal, assuming these work as I expect. It's not the fantastic deal some think - if I could get the $3.84 Ray-O-Vacs, I'd go with them (especially since you can buy in smaller quantities).

Hope this helps.

I'd definitely scoop up all those rayovacs from KMart. At lest then a buck a piece for 1800 mAh nimhs you got a bargain. I paid $1.25 ea for panasonic 1600mAhs in the Big Lot deal. I'm gonna go check out my Kmart to see what's there.

I've been using the MAHA C204F charger for over a year now. At the time (still true today IMO) it was the most highly recommended charger around. Everywhere I went/asked, it was always the MAHA C204F. I've never had a problem with it, chargers everything in like 3 hours - the thing is great!

I got myself a 50 pack of AA's. I charged them in my rayovac 1 hour charger, then proceeded to insert 2 into my Olympus D-40. I set my picture quality to the SHQ setting, and proceeded to fill my 128mb card 3 times before the batteries finally died. Thats about 140 pictures, with flash too, and the screen on. I am totally pleased.

I cant say it does any serious harm, but Ive read from a few sources that say Nimh arent like the nicads...once you charge them, you should keep some level of charge in them always. There is probably some minor loss of life.So you may want to just break into the ones you are going to use for now.

Syl, why did you create a supposed quote from me like that?

I never said they deserve a "terrible rating." That was totally fabricated. I gave them a C- (which means just below average) because I had several batteries with the casing riding too high on the top of the battery so that contact could be affected. And incidentally, after typing that, I *did* have a problem with one of them trying to charge it. I had to re-seat it several times because it wasn't making contact, presumably because of the green plastic casing sticking up too far.

As for the shipping, it is NOT standard business to take several days to ship, especially when a person orders a higher shipping service. I expect orders to be shipped at least by the next day when I pay for a faster shipping service. Otherwise, what's the point?

All in all, I thought the experience was below average, but not terrible (so don't put words in my mouth.) I would probably buy from them again if the price is right, but I wanted to let people know what to expect. These are good batteries, but if the price were higher, I'd probably look at name brands.

Today I got chance to test these New 1800mAH AA Batteries. I used Fuji Finepix S602 to take about 152 pictures with LCD screen on. Its running time is even better than panasonic NiMh battery. Very pleased!!
