Killing 'Links' folder...

Would anyone happen to know a way to PERMANENTLY kill the 'Links' folder in IE's bookmarks? I try to organize my favorites the way I WANT THEM, and that DOES NOT include a 'links' folder. I want it gone. It bugs me, greatly. It's one of the small annoyances that really makes me want to kick some silicon-chipped ass.

Along the same lines, I have disabled 'personalized menus' for the Start button and whatnot, but IE still uses the 'I'm only going to show you your most frequently used tools and sites' crap. I hate that, and want it disabled too. Is there a way? Please tell me there's a way...

Go to your favorites folder under Explorer, right-click on Links, go to Properties, and check "Hidden". Then hit Apply, and it should not appear under IE ever

THat's a good quick fix, but I'd still be a lot happier if I could just delete the folder and have it never ever ever return to my HDD unless I put it there....stupid M$ deciding how people should organize things....

I still need to find out how to get rid of the 'personalized' menu crap in IE. I really get sick of having to click the stupidass arrow just to see a list of the sites that I want to see. It's as bad as AOL!

Get rid of personalized menus in IE: Tools->Internet Options->Advanced->Enable Personalized Menus.

I am not sure whether this works in win9x or not, but if you have tweakUI(1.33) installed there is an option under 'IE' tab that gets rid of the Links folder. You can use this pic to see what I mean. Also you can get tweakUI(1.33) here.

Good luck.

Got any idea if this latest Tweak UI expires? Why this utility would 'expire' is beyond me. Just another step in Gates' plan to control the universe, I guess.

That doesn't work for me, I've had this option unchecked in tweakui for a while and the links folder still shows up.

changing the properties to hidden did work though - thanks PliotronX.

You can't compeltely delete it, IE needs it.
There is a links menu bar that has buttons below (or above or beside or whatever) your Forward/Back/Stop/Refresh buttons. And the Links bar takes you to certain webpages and those web pages are the URLs in the Links folder.

Hiding it is the best you can accomplish, you can't delete it.

At the very least, you should be able to put your own links in there and delete the default ones.

The 'Links' folder is just one of those small super annoying things that just bugs me the wrong way. M$ sees fit to install it every time you install windows, no option to go without it. I delete it, and it comes back and comes back like a bad relative. When I try to organize my HDD, my files, my favorites etc. I want full control over all the folders and whatnot. It's like the personalized menus crap. I've since disabled all of them that I can find, and yet today I STILL had one show up, after I installed some new drivers. It only happened once, but damnit, I don't want to have to scroll or click a little button to see all of my program files and favorites.

Other things that just rub me wrong are the fact that when installing Win9x, even tho I select NOT to install any online services, it STILL installs them. RealPlayer is another evil that I hate with a passion. It's bloated spyware with crappy functionality as far as being a media player goes. WMP & WinAmp are all that I want and or need. Something to play MPEG & DivX movies on, and something to play my MP3s (I don't like WMP for an MP3 player)

I don't like that there are companies that still insist that their crappy software be put into my Startup folder (AOL/AIM/ICQ, RealPlayer, and Creative software are horrible about this)

There are many annoyances with computers, mainly due to software companies trying to tell me what I should have my settings as, what I should see and hear...it's like they're trying to be my parents, and I don't need that. I'm an adult for godsake, I don't need someone telling me what to do with my own computer. If I could get Linux working properly, and figure it out, I'd be running that. Unfortunately, my machine is still a bit to new for stuff to be fully supported. I'd like to get BeOS working too...ohwell. Enough ranting for now...Thanks to those of you who helped me out with this stuff.

What I do is move the folder to the bottom of the favorites. Then it dosen't get in the way.
