Kim Jong-il 2 - Why is he "crazy"

I had a family member that was "mentally Ill" how is Kim Jong 2 mentally ill? I hear he is crazy but they never say why. Same thing for Sadaam Hussein, does he really seem mentally ill to you guys?

For one, creating conflict with the USA is pretty crazy in itself. We have a history of getting rid of leaders we don't like.

Depends on the definition of crazy.
Many dictators have borderline personalities and tend to be slightly paranoid, however dictators that are actually "crazy" (=mentally ill and irrational) tend to loose power very quickly.
I highly recommend a Montefiore's book about Stalin, in his book Montefiore point out that even though Stalin was extremely brutal and often killed people for no apparant reason, he was never truly irrational; the political climate that resulted from the the fact that anyone at any time could be executed only made Stalins position stronger.
Stalin himself pointed out that the same thing could be said about Hitler, with the exception of the last few months he was never truly crazy.

I think the same thing could be say about Ill, from what I understand his postion seems pretty strong; I am not at all sure that he cares about the well being of the people in NK, after all they are there to serve their leader, right?

There are politicians that I suspect truly are mentally ill (danish politican Pia Kjærsgaard is a good example) but Ill is not one of them.

I think that much of is propaganda. Nonetheless, the usual argument I hear is that he's so paranoid, does bizarre things and makes bizarre requests. I've blanked out right now, so I can't remember the specific examples they give about bizarre things he does.

I don't think Kim Jong il is 'crazy', i think he's power hungry.

Just look at his country... Millions are starving, military expenditures are about the only government spending, and the majority people live stone age lives. The people have also been known to have been so hungry and desperate to have resorted to cannibalism on numerous occasions - en mass.

On top of that, he is actually one of the worlds top importers of Courvoisier cognac - for HIMSELF. So it is safe to say he is a total drunk.

Sometimes we refer to people as being ill because we can not understand their line of thinking or their reasoning. However, these people that run these small countries with an Iron fist know exactly what they are doing. They usually have a numerous amount of secret police to keep track of everything the general public says or does. Then they jail all people who disagree with the government. In the northern part of North Korea they have slave labor camps where they gas people to death who disagree with the government. Then to keep the people under control they have 100 percent control of the press and the media and conduct an active brain washing campaign. China knows exactly what North Korea is doing. I would not doubt it if China was advising North Korea what to do and how to do it. The more noise that North Korea makes the less attention is place on the activities of China. It has been reported that China has been building up their Airforce and their Navy and even building submarines, like they plan on attacking someone. Not only that, we are paying them to do it.

There have been estimates that up to even 30% of the DPRK's miniscule/pathetic GDP is spent on building its military. MILLIONS are starving and malnourished and in some parts, people are resorting to eating grass. others are placed in political death and concentration camps. And those are only domestic issues. Kim Jon Il is insane!!!
