Kind of a newbie question about XP

I see you can log on as different users in XP, and I hear you can have personalized things for each users. What kind of things can I personalize in my user account? Desktop? Start Menu? If I install somethin on my user account, will it be installed on all the other user accounts? Thanks, and sorry I'm so new to this.

And also, I entered my hotmail account into my user account, and it keeps on telling me how many unread emails I have when I want to log on. How do I turn this off?

The only place I've seen to be able to turn that off is in the TweakUI utility...

You can have,your desktop,your documents & settings,your internet connections..........Also if you install programms you can make them run only on your account ....About the mail notification I think you can customize it from your Outlook preferences.

if you want a program to show and run by all users, you have to do the install under admin.

if you install the prog under you own user name, it wont show. (i am talking about games, AIM, etc.)

Neither will your files, wallpapers, mouse pointers, etc

Microsoft have hidden this one quite thoroughly...
Go into Control Panel -> User Accounts.
Click on the User then click "Manage my Network Passwords" on the left-hand taskbar.
Select 'Passport.net' and choose remove.

Anything superficial such as the theme, backgrounds, start menu, taskbar, resolution etc. will be saved on a per-user basis.
As far as the start menu goes, the start menu that you see is an amalgamation of your personal start-menu (in %userprofile%\start menu\) and the All Users start-menu. Depending on the options you choose when you install a program, it'll be put in one or the other, and thus be visible to all users or just to you.
