Zuni, I don't know anything about Cold Fusion, Fusetalk nor UBB , but I think train made a point here:

it seems your obviously biased torward fusetalk as you are a "FuseTalk Developer" but Oracle, Mp3.com, and Warner Bros all use UBB, ultimatebb.com has 14,000 users.

looks pretty huge to me: http://bboard.mp3.com/cgi-bin/mp3/ubb/Ultimate.cgi?action=intro

mp3.com doesnt display how man users, but they have about 75 forums, each with over 10,000 posts

if they can handle that many and you can only do 1,000... whats the problem?

Duckers there was no point.. who knows what customizations they have done to it.. etc. I am just speaking from the experiences here. UBB didnt cut it for this forum, great it works on another site but it was not stable here. FuseTalk is stable here, that is my only point. The only 1000 thing I have no idea wtf that was about. Since we have 27,000 users almost, 1.1 million posts etc. Flat files are no match for the power of a properly tuned database. Ever tried searching the body of a message on half a million flat files? Anyway to each his own. I will stand by my product as it gets the job done in a stable, fast manner.

p.s the 15 clients in our list is in no way indicitive of our client base. Its just a sampling.

Sluggo:

As for the question about the doing a tracert. To explain how a request to a webserver works will help you in understanding how 1 network problem along the way destroys the performance of your surfing that site.

1. you make a request to the site i.e. http://www.anandtech.com
2. you make your way out of your isp's network and you take a specific route. Think of this like a map and you are going to xyz you have to take highway 46 then turn left blah blah blah same thing on the internet really.
3. So along the way you encounter a router at say SprintLink in Philidelphia (where the problem started last time) and it tacks on another say 400ms to your travel.
4. Another 4 hops and you are at anandtech lets say, the journey back now begins.
5. The point being here is ANYTHING along the way can slow down your requesting information from a website. If you ever feel like its slow just do a tracert www.anandtech.com. If you are getting times in excess of 200ms you will find it a bit sluggish. If you notice a * or two along the way thats a complete timeout.

I hope this helps explain how this works.
