I don't think anyone "likes" shopping at Walmart

Oh, I do! Then I head home and check the latest entries in POW (People of Walmart) to see if my store is keeping up. So far, my crowd is fairly normal.

What about the fact that every dollar you spend there is contributing to the downfall of america?

Sweet deal, but would rather see Amazon do this, with an Amazon GC, and no sales tax.

no kidding

That said, tempting deal even though I have so little use for it. Got sick of the original Nook's lack of backlight, and bought the Nook color. Nifty little tablet once rooted, but overall it was too clunky to use for that purpose for long. Got sick of the weight of it for reading, and bought a refurb Nook Touch. Now I dislike having to use an external light again

Fuckers got me right where they want me. That said I have yet to get a single non-free ebook so I'm not exactly tied to the platform.

Trust me, this county's financial woes are not coming from my buying the same two liter bottle of Pepsi I could have bought at Target, both of which came from the same factory. Oh, and the country your profess to love so greatly is spelled with a capital "A."

Dont waste your time that fool jhansman. This was a thread about Kindle fire, but some fool wants to turn it into a political poop slinging match. I remember about 10 years ago when every other thread had some fool saying "its bushes fault", or the anti-religious arguments. It took a while to clear that out, and I hope they will keep that from happening again......As far as the deal goes, it looks pretty good. I wonder if they can be rooted and support the newest android systems.

Even if you bought a book, you can strip the DRM if you need to. Information is out there on how to do so for the Kindle/Nook platforms. I hope that doesn't change as I don't want to be tied to a platform.

That's sorta odd - most people I know prefer one display type to the other and wouldn't tolerate the other.

I don't like reading on tablets/phones/etc, but love reading on my nook. Though I did buy a booklight for it to read in darker areas (like as I'm about to sleep).

I kinda want to get a Kindle so I can take advantage of the loaner library. This deal is tempting for that, but I think if I root and install CM I can't use the loaner library which leaves me with a 7" tablet that is a bit gimp compared to the competition. If only I could use CM7/9 and keep access to the lender library/prime instant video but everything I have looked at says that's not possible.

I only say this because they pay their employees nothing and target and destroy local business.

I kind of want to use the loaner library too. I already have Prime so it's kind of not being used right now.

And regarding display types, I like e-ink for everything except its lack of internal light. Having to use a lamp or clip on light at night is silly for an electronic device in 2011/2012. It's not hard to make an array of diffused LEDs on the frame of the display that are connected to a switch on the device. It wouldn't have to make it any bigger and it wouldn't change the display type at all.

The color readers are also a nice option but again, the full glass screen makes them heavy. I haven't looked to see if the Kindle Fire is lighter than the Nook Color, but if so it might be a decent grab for me.

Meh... I might just end up modding my Nook Touch to include lighting anyway.

Anyone know if this is upgradable to Icecream Sandwich? Seems like a good deal since the $50 can go towards the groceries thereafter. Wow, I wish we didn't have limited stores around where I live.

No official ICS. There are a few custom roms though. CM7, CM9 (aka ICS), and MIUI (Gingerbread and ICS versions). I'm not sure how the stability and usability are with the current releases. It probably would be best to check out the KF forums at XDA.

I picked up one last night. The first WallyWorld was out of stock, the second store had one left which i grabbed.

The employees said you can call & if they have any in stock, you can reserve it for 1 hour. This is what i would recommend.

Anyway, happy with the purchase - the screen is really bright & colors are crisp. Though the reader seems a little on the heavy side - definitely heavier than a GRRM paperback.
