Anyone else pre-order one of these? I have the basic Kindle and love it, and this model appears to have the same appeal with a better feature set. Looking forward to using it.

I did as well, have had a current gen Kindle, Touch, Touch 3G, and just pre ordered the wifi Paperwhite, I underestand the contrast with this device is awesome... Really looking forward to it.

I preordered it as well, but I'm hesitant as to whether or not I'll cancel it. I have the basic $79 Kindle from last year, and while I would like the nicer screen, I really don't want a touch screen only Kindle. I find it very unfortunate that they're gimping the cheap version the way that they are.

I actually like the side button paging controls on the basic Kindle, and wish they had left them intact on the Paperwhite, along with the touch screen. The basic is easy enough to use with one hand (the other holding a sandwich during lunch!) that a touch screen seems unnecessary, but I'll wait and see. The display looks really nice, though.

I never used the touch button kindle, love my Kindle Touch. The new paperwhite-with it's built in night reading light, sounds absolutely ideal to me. Definately going on my Xmas list (kids always complain I'm hard to buy for).

BTW the only time the Touch ever annoys me is when I'm reading a book chock full of footnotes-have to be careful where you swipe then.

Even though I already have a Nook with glow light, I considered the Kindle to take advantage of the Prime perks I already pay for. But the lack of any physical page turn buttons and the constant refusal of amazon to support epub makes me think I'll stick with the nook.

Funny, Amazon's abandonment of buttons has me considering making the switch to Nook - but I own dozens of Kindle books, which really makes the switch difficult...that's how they get ya.

Know that you can convert between all formats easily with Calibre (http://calibre-ebook.com/). It's free, fairly easy to use, and is completely compatible with all the Kindle (and many other) devices. I couldn't manage my ebook collection without it.

I am somewhat concerned by the fact that the light is on *at all times*. Going to wait for some reviews before getting one. Otherwise I might try to pick up a last gen Touch.

<--kicking self for not picking base Kindle couple weeks ago for ~45.

Yeah, I got in on that deal a couple of months ago (refurb for $49), and it was the bargain of the year for me. If the Paperwhite turns out to be a bust, it just goes back.

Yes and I use that but when converting I'm never left with the same formatting. Either special characters get screwed up, or the margins/spacing is messed with and not easily fixable manually.

I put in the pre-order tonight. I have a Kindle 3 keyboard that I use a lot with the case w/ light. I would like a lighter and more compact version, case and all, and I do reading in bed at night so a better light is also desirable for me. The original Kindle 3 is a very small device, but the case makes it a bit bulky. I found though that I really do not use the keyboard that much except when I play around with the web browser. I'm also going down to the Wi-fi model as I find I no longer make much use of the 3G and keyboard. I normally do not pre-order products, but I use my Kindle to such a high degree I am willing to splurge on a new model as my Christmas present.

Someone mentioned that the light was always on, I did not realize that until I looked it up and found that in a USA Today article. However, Amazon still claims the same battery life as with my Kindle 3 sans light.
