See. Here's a perfect example of User1234 in action. Note how very important it is for him to make the amazing point (not clear to any of the rest of you, I'm sure) that my original post was something other that a gee-whiz, honest-to-god, slam-dunk deal. And therefore, under AT Forums Rule 2.B, subsection 3(ii), revision 4, THIS IS AN ILLEGAL POST!!!

Thanks, User, how could we possibly have missed that? Guess your powers of observation are that much more acute than ours. We bow down.

seriously, chill user. someone pretending they are a mod is not really worth the posts u take up, especially from someone who has been a member for barely 6 mos. he/she/it really needs to chill

just remember though - he/she/it ownZZZ y'all:roll:

i'm just wondering where on the page they have a financing offer for these, i mean if we're talkin 0.9%apr, we might have a winner

First, I think its pretty funny that anyone would buy something like this. "A fool and his money are soon parted".

Second, I think Shira is probably just as revolted as the rest of us.

But what's all the vitrol about? Really, does anybody think that this is in any way SIGNIFICANT? If so, please DIAL 1-900-GET-A-LIF for intensive further discussions. Note 900 number...significant charges will apply...$16,000/minute.

The cheapest one they got is $2500 bucks. I can go shoot a couple Ducks up in Michigan and make one myself, and I'll have tangy meat too!

:disgust:

I have been a member/reader of these great pages for more than 7 years.
I do not post often.
HOWEverrrrrrr ......

The SHAME of "user1234's" message is that LOTS of us actually ENJOYED post !

It is GREAT !
GREAT fun !

Where I am located, it is cold(er) than normal, and after getting cabin-fever from being home-bound due to ice, this meesage is quite refreshing.

Maybe a BETTER choice is for "user1234" to find somewhere ELSE to go hang out - some place which is more liking to his DARK sense of humility and rudeness.

And SHIRA ... Thanks a TON for helping many, many of us to get a GREAT laugh today !!!

Best Wishes to the Super other 99.9999% of the members here !

I got an idea. Shut your mouth and move on if you don't enjoy his "funny" humor.

GREAT link, BakedWafer !

Personally, however, I was so hoping that the site had MOUTH WIPES
we could use on one or two less-than-distinguished members of Anandtech
who take it upon themselves to crap on GREAT Excellent posts like this one !

Oh, well, maybe deal.com will take pity (Why????) on User1234
and add sanitized MouthWipes to their listings in the near future !@

Thanks for sharing.
Shame that excellent down blanket was already sold out, BakedWafer !@

He who is grateful for those who make Anandtech Great Fun and Very Meaningful ...

Yes, this "person" should be banned immediately. The hot deals forum is not meant for practical jokes.
Err, this forum used to be pretty sociable, along with the occasional humor thread once in a while, just to keep things lively. Sorry that this forum isn't living up to your standards.

Although, in terms of the technical rules of this forum, the post is allowed - it is in fact quite a significant money-saving deal, although it is probably beyond the financial resources of both you and I, so it doesn't apply to us. In that case, perhaps, one should simply refrain from comment, rather than ask for the banning of a poster that posts a deal that doesn't personally apply to you. (Such as a $100,000 Lexus, "on sale" for only $95,000. Maybe that actually *is* a deal to some.)

Read the rules, and post this kind of stuff somewhere else, preferably not even on anadtech at all (maybe you can find some newsgroup that will like your "funny" humor).
Obviously, humor is incompatible with you.

I agree with what you say, but there is no $100,000 Lexus. There are priced below MB in tune with their worth.

Thanks OP for the post.

Thanks User for making me find the "ignore" feature of these forums.

Bump for principle. Buy a comforter, shred it in a tree chipper and send it to user.

They added an "ignore" feature to these forums? NOW THAT'S A HOT DEAL! I'll have to go check that out...

Edit: While investigating the actual cost of a Lexus, I came across this book listing on Amazon.com. It actually seems highly relevant to the original post in this thread, the description talks about the fighting between the haves and have-nots of this world. Sounds interesting, I might peruse later if I can find it at a B&M bookstore.

Edit 2: It's actually more of a book on globalization, written in 1999. A couple of review quotes:
The Lexus and the Olive Tree is less an academic book on globalization than it is the work of a futurist. Friedman's writing, and ways of viewing the world place him more in line with thinkers like Alvin Toffler, Marshall McLuhan, and Malcolm Gladwell rather than the multitudes of policy analysts.
A major caveat with this book is that chapter three, the "Backlash against the System" happens to be the shortest. Given this fact, it is easy to discern that a nearly one-sided view of globalization has been presented throughout the text. Friedman has not tried to comprehend the voices of the protestors during the Seattle Summit in 1999, and instead argues about "The Groundswell-or the backlash against the backlash." It is here when Friedman's journalistic credibility should be challenged, because all sides of the story have not been given equal time. Granted, it would have made the book more dense, but Friedman's sheer dismissal of the protests against globalization is equal to an ignorance that the system is imperfect.
After reading the Lexus and the Olive Tree, I was struck by one facet in particular: the overwhelming lack of evidence. In his justification of globalization, Friedman seems to blindly turn away from actual statistical data, such as the growth or decline in GDP of nations involved in free trade, and instead cites the OPINIONS of his peers. While this starts off being somewhat entertaining, it soon becomes downright irritating, and halfway through the book I found myself getting more annoyed by the page. How about some examples of actual nations helping themselves through free trade, backed by eviednce which shows that their gross domestic profit was lower when they started their liberalized trade tactics than it is today?!! Nope. Instead, Friedman decides to use, and I am being completely serious here, television commercials inplace of evidence. When he isn't citing comercials (which he does QUITE A LOT) he is using the opinions of those national leaders who are making a fortune off of globalization while the people of their country starve as a result of poor social services (or a lack thereof).

It just struck me as interesting, as we seem to be mocking someone paying $17,000 for a glorified blanket, and yet, there is an actual segment of the population that probably buys those.

PS. I was wrong about a Lexus costing $100K. Apparently highest factory MSRP is around $65-68K, but I'm sure long-term financing charges and option packages probably could push it higher.

"This very rare down is hand harvested from the empty nests of the eider duck."

Why not just shoot the damn duck and take all his feathers instead of just the few that fall off.
