I never played this game, does it have a deep leveling system and all the staples of a serious JRPG?

I am looking forward to FFX HD, but not sure I really want to get it for the PS3 with the PS4 coming out...

Oh yes. Its traditional JRPG with exp and levels, skill growth and customizing, rare items and crafting, puzzles, status ailments, the works.

Except its real time action, not turn based. The battle system is very fun as you gain # of attacks, new combos, the ability to launch/slam/freeze enemies and juggle/interrupt them, auto counter and blocking skills and items that can be assigned, elemental weaknesses and defenses, menu driven spell/items in combat, skills earned like double jump, even the ability to fly after visiting Neverland, etc.

Its very good.

Typical endearing characters and worlds of a JRPG that are easy to get attached to.

Personally, I prefer Cloud over Sora, but I also preferred the darker and more mature story of FF7 to the... incomprehensible mess that is Kingdom Hearts plot. I think a big part of why FF7 is "the best FF" for a lot of people boils down to it being the first real 3d/modern RPG of the PSX era that also had a plot about something other than your typical teenage angst driven coming of age story. Cloud wasn't some perfect as a rainbow do-gooder out to save the world, he was totally effed in the head. I really wish they released FF: Crisis Core years before they did, it was a hugely important part of the back story of FF7 and filled in a lot of the uncertainties and assumptions. I'd kill for a PS3 or PS4 remake of the two like they did with KH 1.5, hopefully SE will finally bite now that they're doing these other HD remakes and they're selling really well.

Are you serious?!??!? It was totally a coming of age teenage angst RPG. Pretty much frigging all the Final Fantasies are like that and its frustrating because as I grow up, I don't think the same way. I want something more nuanced, mature, and considerate than "....TIME TO SAVE THE WORLD AND I'M 16-20 WHOOO HOOO".

You think this would have been better without Disney?

Probably. But it's hard to say, Donald and Goofy are pretty bad ass loyal friends in KH, just wouldn't be the same without them looking at it after the fact. They really grow on you, they don't even feel like Disney characters after a while.

Don't think a FF7 will ever happen unless they COMPLETELY remake it. PS2 games are mostly porting existing 3D mesh assets and rendering to a higher res framebuffer.

From what I've picked up, Square does not have high resolution stills and pre-rendered depth buffers or the original pre render 3D scene data for the FF7 static backgrounds. The whole game would have to be redone completely from scratch.

Maybe they could do it as a native PS4 game along the vein of Advent Children. I thought AC had more emotion and a more coherent story to it than FF7. I dunno... back in the day FF7 was the first RPG I never finished right away. I just stopped playing for a long time and had to go back later. It just didn't grip me. It was a clear step in the wrong direction from FF6 for me.

They pretty much lost their staple FF crew around that time with internal restructuring and acquisition of Enix. Square has just never been Square without Sakaguchi, Amano, and Uematsu at the helm.

If Mistwalker and Monolith got together... O M F G

Didn't Square say a complete FF7 remake would be too expensive? I'd actually prefer them to start a new IP and go with it.

Sadly, Mistwalker is only about writing games not actually developing them and I don't see them getting far. The written short stories in Lost Odyssey were so good. And Uematsu has always been a genius.

I don't see how. They would have to start from scratch for the assets, but they would have a well known template to follow, and honestly FF7 was NOT a huge world with that many unique places to visit in comparison to today's games. There was also alot of back tracking and revisiting, flashbacks, etc. Hell half the game was just FMV.

It might have been a big budget busting game in the 90s, but it would be a pretty crude game to remake today esp with the 100s of 3D artists they have these days.

They make games today that eat up an entire Bluray on a regular schedule like its nothing. FF7 was 2.5 CDs, most of it duplicate FMV files so you didn't have to swap discs.

As much as I don't really care for it, I don't see why they don't remake it if they are hurting for cash. I bet it's forever lost in IP legality limbo with Square Enix not being the same people/company. There is no other explanation.

No...when first playing it you didn't know where you would go and some of the disney movies represented in the game are very well done. One of the appeals for me was never knowing which new characters I would run into and then the moment when you see some of the stuff you remember from being a kid and seeing the movie for the first time, it's just great.

I just saw that Fry's is going to have it for 19.99 from the 24th to the 29th. I wish I had a Fry's nearby.

Guess I'll need to add this to my list of games I need to pick up. Never played it originally so will be a completely new game for me.

Sorry for the late response, but I think the FMVs were part of the expensive part. Rendering that much today, in HD, would be a big undertaking. If they wanted to match the quality we've come to expect (think Pixar level), it would cost a good chunk of change for that much. Plus, they'd have to completely scrap pretty much all of the assets except maybe the music (if they even still have the lossless score).

I am sure a lot of people would buy it, but they'd end up disappointed after playing it (which is probably the reason it really won't get a remake). It wasn't a particularly good game, in fact, it ranks as one of the lowest in the FF series for me. Most people just remember it because it was their first FF and the first game to really have that kind of scale for them.

As far as this HD remake of KH goes; I will most likely never get it. I didn't like the original KH. Don't get me wrong, I loved the idea, and the gameplay was good, I just didn't like that I had to do all kinds of garbage just to get my ticket to ride the train and have Disney characters coming out of every orifice. Plus, the story never really grabbed me and the main character was annoying.

Where did you see that? I would certainly pick it up for $20.

NM found it. Will be buying that after work.

Its just a cardboard sleeve with a book in it. The hardcover art book has a hard plastic clear jewel case half in the back cover that holds the disc.

Nothing too special, but its the same price so....

Its neat to see stuff like this though. I sorely miss the Working Designs sets though. Like the PS1 Lunar and Arc the Lad sets and their hard leather bound books. NIS and Namco have some nice ones these days though.

Ni no Kuni and Tales of Xillia limited sets are Working Designs worthy and pretty epic.

Ps1 lunar with the ost was very sweet for the time. Wish all jrpgs did that. Sometimes it is hard to track down the osts...

Get me one too. No local frys here. Closest one is over 3 hours drive away.

Failed miserably at getting them to give it to me for $19.99.
Apparently there was some sort of email only thing where you were supposed to have a promo code for them to enter.
To make matters worse Fry's archaic (and I mean that in the truest sense of the word, still running Netware) system caused them to print out shelf signs showing the $19.99 price, which were later taken down.
So by the time I got there after work to get the game every manager in the place was on high alert for people trying to get the game without the promo code. On top of it, they were real dicks about it.
Tried price matching at a couple of other stores with no luck.

So if anyone has a promo code that they have no intention of using please PM me. I will be forever grateful.

It wasn't a complete bust, I managed to get Catherine for $10.
Frys is clearing out a bunch of older games, but getting any of them is a huge YMMV as stock has been depleted at most locations.

My local Target had 3 of the Limited Edition still. I asked to look at all 3 and grabbed the best looking one yesterday. I won't have time to play it yet so I still have it sealed in my locked cabinet. I figure if by the time I get to play it the used prices of the Limited Editions go down I'll grab one of them and keep this sealed, and if the price of the new goes down I'll return this and grab one online.

No point in worrying about it. Nothing new today will have collector value.

Because 100 million people who missed the boat and didn't keep their boxed NES games the first time around now all have the same idea that they aren't going to miss out this time and are hoarding everything new that comes out to keep sealed.

So in 30 years when everybody has 100 million sealed limited edition KH 1.5 HDs it will be worth nothing.

Same thing with the million people who think their mass produced multi year run 200x Shelbys will be worth millions some day because they missed the boat in the 60s.

Shit that gets collector value is stuff nobody cared or demanded enough of when its new.

Everybody buying stuff today is just seeing what NES and SNES stuff is worth now, problem is EVERYBODY is jumping on the "next future collectible" and resell bandwagon which ensures there will not be a future collector market because everyone will have it.

If KH is special to you at all, keep it. No need to keep or dump it based on dollar value

I collect because I enjoy it as a hobby. If the value of something goes up or down I don't care. I know I talk about value going up and stuff but really going up or holding even just helps me justify the gargantuan amount of income I spend on this shit. Nothing more.

Value for me, not to resell in this case

Also was able to nab a FF XIII-2 Collector's for $25; that felt pretty good.

Have TOS and Guided Fate pre-ordered, my D2 came in, also have the Class of Heroes 2 limited release UMD with certificate. A good time to be a collector.

If KH is special to you at all, keep it. No need to keep or dump it based on dollar value.

If I'm working on a budget I do I plan on having a copy either way; I'm saying if the value goes down I might as well return mine and re-buy at a lower price (granted this has to happen within the return period).

Yeah I do enjoy the little releases like Class of Heroes 2 and Pier Solar. Hehe. I have a original print US version of Pier Solar with the Sega CD audio disc and two sealed reprints. .

One is intended as a gift to a childhood friend who shared my love of RPGs but who also got into fights with me about Genesis vs SNES. They are currently worth $150-250 now vs the original $45 heh.
