Good deal. I took advantage of an earlier Dell offer for this card, and it's great. It's among the faster of the CF cards.

Just as a heads-up, you might want to change your title to include "(after coupons and rebate)" though.

I second JBtech's statement that Kingston CF is fast. I saw a dramatic improvement in write time after I bought a 128mb Kingston card. I also had a problem with the rebate, so I called their customer service and was AMAZED!!!

Not only did the CSR call the redemption company personally, she offered to call me back when they didn't respond quickly enough to her inquiry.

Long story short: I waited 3 months for the redeption company to seen my rebate, but to no avail. The Kingston CSR was able to accomplish in 4 days what the redemption company was unable to do in 3 months, mail my damn rebate.

I always recommend Kingston, as they stand behind their product and give personal attention in the impersonal e-tailer world.

I just read this off the rebate..

Save $30.00 on Kingston's 256MB CompactFlash Card

Receive a $30.00 rebate when you purchase Kingston's 256MB CompactFlash card (CF/256, UPC# 740617057379) from shop.kingston.com in the USA. Offer valid from January 1, 2002 through February 28, 2002 for U.S. residents only. Print this coupon and fill out all requested information and mail it with a copy of either the sales receipt/invoice/packing slip and the original UPC code from the package to:

so if this CF memory is purchased through Dell we might not be eligible for the rebate?

where are you guys getting that? the rebate that i linked says:

"Receive a $30.00 rebate when you purchase Kingston's 256MB CompactFlash card (CF/256, UPC# 740617057379) from participating E-tailers and resellers in the USA."

if there's something wrong with my link, do this:
- scroll down to "256 mb compact flash offer" (on the right)
- then click "Get your $30 rebate coupon"

it says nothing about having to buy it from them directly.

Rebate looks fine to me. This is only $15 cheaper than Mr. Flash, AR. How much faster is it when compared to Mr. Flash or even Lexar?

I bought this card too and I have to second that it is very fast.

Granted, my old card was a Simple Tech 128MB CF card from 1 1/2 years ago but this new card is, I'd say, 30-40% faster than my old one. It is very noticeable.

Mr. Flash is among the bottom of the barrel. Lexar and Kingston tend to be the fastest.

First post mentions something about adding a screw.

Here's the screw.

What are some 2 - 3 Megapixel digital cameras for under $300 (after coupon/rebate/PM) that you guys would recommend which accept CF?

<--- Wishing my Fuji Finepix 1400 accepted CF instead of SM

Speed differences in CF are often exaggerated, I doubt you will see a difference between name brand and generic CF unless you are using a very expensive SLR digital camera or a firewire CF reader. In consumer devices, you generally won't see a significance difference.

I've tried 3 different CF cards in my kodak DC4800 digicam and I systematically tested write times for a sequence of pictures. I used a 4x lexar 16 mb, kodak 16 mb and kingston 256 mb cards and there was no significant difference (no variance greater than 5%) between the write times across all the cards.

That being said, you are buying better support (tech/phone support, RMA policy) with a name brand CF card.
