Kingston 3200 HyperX Ram

Outpost.com has this Kingston Hyper X ram, 512mb, regularly priced for $79.99. Until March 1, they also have a $15 rebate. So, the total is $64.99. I bought this about a month ago and I really like it for such affordable quality. They seem to frequently run this rebate, so keep your eyes open!

Got two of these and they work great in my MSI board. They do not work at all in my Epox board. Beware make sure your systemboard supports it.

Wow, I thought Winbond CH-5 worked with every board. It's always been the most compatible RAM I've owned. BH-5, on the other hand...

I actually received my $20 rebate when they had the 1GB kits on Outpost.com and it was actually new stuff! Pretty good deal.

You also might want to check out TwinMOS TMII/Speed Premium on Newegg. Goes for $144 shipped and uses Winbond UTT. UTT performs very much like BH-5 (even better), but it also seems to carry with it the same incompatabilities. Still the best deal going.

This rebate has been extended until 3/10/2005. However, this is on backorder. If you don't mind waiting a week or two, still a good deal.

It's a great deal. And, the timing's aggressive. I bumped my cas latency down to 2.0 (from 2.5) and it's stable as can be.

So, I order the HyperX ram, and a Seagate Hard Drive. They sent the drive, and the RAM went on back order. Today, Outpost sends me this email saying that they're sending me this Geil RAM, which has a different product number and everything.

At first, I thought maybe I somehow clicked on the wrong product when I ordered (since I was looking through all of the possible choices) but I checked the first email they sent me and no, it was originally the Kingston HyperX.

Did this happen to anyone else?

Not me, but I cancelled when I found it went on backorder. I know they do that sometimes, it's in their "backorder policy".
I'll tell you what, that is great RAM. Now that you say that they are sending that, I'm kicking myself for cancelling.

No mention in their site of the product being OOS and yes, Geil is good stuff, either way it's a good deal.

Except it has higher latencies, and it doesn't have a rebate, so I'm screwed out of $15 until they re-imburse me. I already have a stick of HyperX running 3200 at 2-3-3. This stick was going let me go dual.

Next time, I'm spending more and getting Mushkin from Newegg. I don't like the bait and switch stuff.
