I purchased this memory a couple weeks ago from Outpost.com. Like others, I was shipped 'KHX3200/512', though I've not tested it yet so am ignorant of whether it carries BH5 chips. There appear to be very slight abrasions in the middle of the heat spreader (used, refurbished module?). If this memory runs properly, however, I probably would give serious consideration to buying another DIMM.
However, the rebate situation is very odd, and might in fact expose Outpost's loose way with the facts (especially if the rebate must be approved by Kingston). As reported in previous posts, the rebate form applies to 'ValueRAM' and includes a photo of a DIMM sans memory spreader. More likely to prove a complication: the rebate form does list 'KHX3200A/512R'. However, most of us have been receiving 'KHX3200/512', which may not fulfil the rebate criteria. Certainly the UPC listed on the rebate form ('740617079456') does not match the UPC on my received memory ('740617071733'). I may write Outpost and Kingston this afternoon and ask them to clarify the situation.
To consider: whatever one might think of HyperX v other premium memory brands, this has been for some time a suspiciously cheap price for KHX3200A or KHX3200. What the ah heck is going on? Is this altogether legit? Are we all being misled into buying used / refurbished memory? Regardless of its actual quality, refurbished technology products should always be labelled as such. I am beginning to harbour grave doubts regarding Outpost...
