Hello people,

I upgraded my SSD from a previous Cruxial MX100 256GB and it was fast with more than 300MB/s of speed on my core i7 Gigabyte Z87 HD-3 motherboard to a Kingston KC400 512GB SSD and frankly I don't know to think about this. While all benchmark software reads fast speeds, when I run HD Tune 5.60 sequential reads it gives me only 150MB/s... Is this normal or some bug? Is this a crappy SSD drive? What do you think? I'm using Intel AHCI drivers the same as the previous SSD I had. What should I expect from this SSD? The reviews online for this drive always gave better results on HD Tune.. :/

I'm looking forward to hear a reply from you and thank you in advance for your kind help and attention.

With the best regards,

Rfsapiens

Pretty sure I saw a similar issue with some Kingston HyperX Savages.
I'm betting that the drive is pretty full, right?
Because I saw speeds of 150MB/s for areas that were in use and normal speeds for the empty area.
And then the issue just disappeared after a while and HD Tune showed results that were more like you'd expect.

Anyway, why don't you run SSD Read Speed Tester to confirm that it's an issue with HD Tune?

Remember to turn off any software that can interfere with the test though, like antivirus.

Hello people,

Thank you for your kind reply and sorry for the delay. I tested the SSD with the program you recommended me and it gave me the following results:

What do you think? Is it a bug of HD Tune? But then why didn't it happen with my previous SSD? Should I worry about something or the real accurate result is the one on all other programs and this one except HD Tune?
Thank you in advance for your kind attention and support.

With the best regards,

Rfsapiens.

If you think there is a problem, you can always clone the SSD to a file, secure erase the SSD, then re-write the file you made back to the SSD, and then check.

Personally, I don't see anything that jumps out that is way out of spec, I don't really use HD Tune much, it is a really, really old program.

Except, it appears that he is using the newer, paid version, and not the super-old, free version. The version he's using, says "HDD/SSD" on it.

Yes, it is an issue with HD Tune rather than with the drive.
Don't know why it happens but since both of our drives are from Kingston I think it may be something that can happen to Kingston drives using Phison S10 as a controller (and possibly other drives using the same controller).
And with my drives HD Tune started showing normal results after a while and I don't know why that is either.

But anyway, it is not really something to worry about, the other programs show accurate results while HD Tune does not.

You could see if a firmware update would help matters though, if so remember to backup all of the data should something happen during the firmware update.
Here is a link to the program you would need for that: https://www.kingston.com/en/support/technical/ssdmanager
