Hello,

Saw this in the Sunday flyer for Boston area Best Buy stores. Kingston Hyper X PC4000 512 MB is normally 129.99. $10 Rebate brings it to 119.99. Quick search on pricewatchand newegg says best deal is $153.00. Am I ready this right?

Was considering getting Kingston Hyper X pc3200 512 mb for 113.00. Should I upgrade?

I got some from Fry's when it was $129 + a $20 MIR. Its rated 3-3-3-8 and on my board it doesn't seem to want to run more aggressive timings than that (I only tried a few and they were at high fsb's). I'm at 225MHz right now and they are rated at 250MHz. I think my motherboard won't let me go any higher. I have an Epox 8RDA+ 2.1 and it seems that most of those can get to around 225MHz with the stock settings. Don't know if I'm gonna mod my board yet.

yeah its a good deal, but only for high FSB with a P4, i picked up 2 sticks from fry's, and they will run 233FSB on my NF7-S, but at cas3,4,4,10, which is some sucky timings, they hate any kind of tight timings at all.

so great deal if you have a 2.4,2.6,2.8 P4C 800FSB and want to do 240FSB to 260FSB maybe more.

Great Ram!!! just sold my corsair 512 Cas 2 DDR400 and bought a gig of it and am running my p4 2.8c @3.5 DDR500 with the recommended timings. Haven't tried any more aggresive timings though

this is a very good deal, it's cheaper than the BB employee price, the retail on it was 199 each last week, and I must say it's awsome RAM

yup, my local BB has had it for 3 months.

I don't have a P4 so it is useless to me.

I had gotten some of this too, but I'm thinking of returning it as I think it's a waste for an Athlon. I have an Athlon in an ECS K7VTA3 Mobo (KT333 chipset). It works well up to 185 FSB or so (where my AGP is running too fast), but NOT on aggressive timings. You have to use relaxed tRCD timings even as low as 166 MHz. (7-3-3-2.5). I haven't taken the heat-spreaders off but most people say these sticks are built with Samsung chips.

This is a very good price, but if you're going to run LESS than 250 FSB, your probably better off getting some less expensive, low latency PC3200 or something and overclocking it. That's the weird part about this particular HyperX PC4000: it's less expensive and worth less than PC3200 because of the high latencies (unless you are going to run it at 250 FSB)! It might be possible get lower latencies at, say, 200 FSB, if you raise the DDR voltage high enough but I keep reading and reading and haven't found anybody who has done it.

Anybody know the technical reason why memory that can run at such a high MHz cannot run low MHz with tighter timings???

Any suggestions on what I should replace it with? (I want to run 6-2-2-2 at 200 MHz FSB). It's either that, or get a MoBo that can utilize it...

By the way, BBuy in Emeryville generally has it in stock. They seemed to keep 5+ in inventory and sell 1.2 per week on average. We'll see if they sell more with it on sale...

It will most likely underclock to meet the maximum supported memory speed on your motherboard. And if it does that you might be able to lower the timings.

I got a postcard from their rebate handlers (Miami, FL) saying that I did not include the UPC. First time I have been wrongfully denied a rebate. Consider this when dealing with Kingston and rebates

I did keep a copy of my submissions so we'll see how it goes...
