Bump for darqice's question. I'm getting my Canon A70 tomorrow and have never used these memory sticks. I heard I want some faster speed. How can I tell what the speed is? There's not much of a description on their site. This seems like a good price. I've seen a couple bucks cheaper, but I'm guessing the rebate from Kingston is much more reliable.

oh. i think i can answer your guys' speed questions.
kingston is pretty slow speed. slower than simpletech (we're talking about regular kingston (not hi-speed) and regular simpletech (not pro))
simpletech on their website says up to 1.5 Megabytes/sec. i have both, and the kingston is definitely slower.

HOWEVER, on cameras like the a70, and others, speed doesn't really matter. only in movie mode for some cameras, because they require fast speed so they can continuously stream the video to the memory.
but other than that, these regular consumer digital cameras can't take advantage of higher speeds. but they do matter when you are transferring in a card reader. the kingston is much slower than the simpletech when i pop it into my usb 2.0 reader

Thanks, s0ssos. I think I'll go with this, then. Seems like a good deal. I just picked the camera up this morning. It's sitting on my desk. Haven't played with it, yet, but maybe at lunch. The 16MB CF isn't gonna cut it, though! I need a card reader, too, I guess?

you don't NEED a card reader. the prices of card readers have gone way down though, and cameras are notoriously slow for transferring. i mean, 600 KB/s is a good rate for the camera to transfer.

card readers can do more than a megabyte per second easily, i think. even cheap ones. so it's up to you. you could just let your camera sit there transferring.

also, with the card reader you don't have to have the camera on and using batteries. i mean, that'll just mean more recharging for you if you don't have an ac adapter

Kingston 256MB purchased at DELL was able to achieve 952KB/s on USB card reader (USB 1.1). I don't think that my Canon A70 can transfer at 600KB/s. I never bothered to check speed of camera transfer but it is noticeably slower (2-3 times slower). Some people mentioned that Kingston makes only Hi speed even though they label it as normal. I have seen somewhere on the web review of Kingston HS card and it was really one of the best achieving over 3MB/s using firewire card reader. Check somewhere in Kingston DELL threads - plenty of good info. Simpletech does not have good opinion in terms of reliability and review showed that so advertized hi speed CF card are not as fast as advertized. Kingston and Viking was pretty good and fast. Viking has lower reliability though. Kingston is good stuff.

EDIT: Card reader is nice bc you don't use your batteries from camera but you cannot download pictures in directories when using USB cable. I used card reader (ECS from newegg did not work properly - no matter what I have tried). Using card reader is like getting extra drive and you can read files in windows explorer but there is no directory hierarchy. I like the feature of Canon software to download pictures in directories based on date stamp - this process is performed automatically. So I don't care about card reader because of this missing feature - unless there is a way to achieve it using card reader.

I bought an A70 a couple of weeks ago. Went to CC to get a 256 Sandisk Ultra, took about 150 pictures over a long weekend. Bought a regular Sandisk from Dell outlet for $26 AR. Comparing the ultra and non-ultra, I couldn't tell the difference. Since I bought the Ultra from CC, I just returned it. The no-hassle return is the reason I prefer buying stuff from BB and CC. CUSA charges 15% restocking fee.

For the A70, I think it would be more important to look for reliability as opposed to performance. The photo stitch feature is great, too bad the LCD is very difficult to see in sunlight.
