I just came from lit class and am sitting here at work and my teacher brought up an interesting idea I think. Here in america alot of me are "homophobic to the n'th degree," and for example he knows he could never kiss his father, but he treats his boys differently. We briefly talked about the traditionally more free European countries if you will where men kissing other men isnt looked down upon. He did say though that even though he brought his boy where kissing his father was okay, that they never do kiss ont he lips, just on the cheek, where his boy will kiss his mother on the lips. What do you guys think of this? I'm 19 and I like to think of myself as a pretty liberal guy, but I reserve a kiss on the lips for those I'm romantically involved with, I think that otherwise the kiss on the cheek is more appropriate. Any opinions?

That is a real mature answer amish

Soy,

Although I used to kiss my father quite often when younger, I only do it on special occasions now, such as when he came home from the hospital after Colon cancer surgery. His birthday, etc. And although it is strange, it is also a comfort to know that my father and I are not afraid to show our love for each other as father and son. I only hope that I can be half the man he is.

I agree with Electric Amish.I never even felt comfortable kissing my mom on the lips it was cheek or nothing and I don't care for cheek much either. Now hugging on the other hand I got no problem with that.

I used to kiss my mother (on the cheek) when I was younger quite frequently. But then again, I did grow up in Europe where, like you said Soybomb, it is more acceptable to show affection like that freely.

In a lot of cultures it is not only ok for relatives to kiss, but also for friends, same sex or not.

Personally, I do reserve a kiss on the lips for a romantic partner, otherwise I would feel a lot more comfortable with just a kiss on the cheek.

I agree with ulfwald, nothing wrong with kissin' the old man...I grew out of the lips with my dad when I was about 12 or so...but cheek (facial...) is fine. I kiss my mom and once in awhile my sisters on the lips...though not kinky kissing!

EDIT: these new smilies suck...the where the now is made me look ashamed that i didn't kinky kiss my mom and sisters! OMG!

I kissed my grandmother once and she slipped me the tongue. Actually maybe it wasn't her tongue, perhaps it was her dentures. OOOOOOOOOOOH NOOOOOOOOO!

I ran home and washed my face!

Funny you should bring this up. I was just watching "Meet Joe Black" and was somewhat surprised to see the daughters kissing their father on the lips. I have seen that just a few other times before, to me kissing on the lips signifies more of a romantic gesture, whereas on the cheek or forehead is family type.

I kiss my wife and daughter. That's it.

I wouldn't be surprised if someday my daughter didn't want to kiss me anymore, but right now she's only 1 and hasn't grown out of it yet.

What the hell is wrong with you sick-minded idiots.

I kiss my mother...on the lips!
I kiss my 20 year old daughter...on the lips!
I kiss my 18 year old son...on the lips!

Ya know why? Cause I love them! Nothing sick or perverted about it.

My family is not very affectionate but when my brother got killed in an accident, two months before my daughter was born, I started kissing and hugging my mother and telling her I love her everytime I see her. My kids, well, that started as a bedtime ritual from the beginning and as they have gotten older and we leave them or they leave us, it's kiss, hug and I love you time. Lately the kissing has kinda tapered off with my son. Sadly, I think we are both getting a little uncomfortable with it, it really is a shame, because there's not a damn thing wrong with it. And you immature jagoffs that don't know the difference between a kiss of love and a sexual kiss probably shouldn't be kissing your mothers. Jeez, what a bunch of wankers.

Oh Yea, I kiss my wife...everywhere with lots of tongue.

I could never bring myself to kiss a family member on the lips, or at all preferably. I think we have a somewhat close family (albeit a bit dysfunctional), but that was just not something we did. I think if some people do it, that's great. I don't think those who do it, necessarily have more affection. It's just a social behavior.

Unfortunately my family does not get along at all so hugs/kisses/hand shakes are completely out of the question.

This is an incredibly difficult time in my home. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to get OT.

I'll kiss my mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and female cousins on the cheek/lips. I'll kiss my best friend's wife, mother, mother-in-law, and also his wife's aunt on the cheek/lips as well. This because we're pretty much like family. It's handshakes all around, or maybe a hug for male family/friends/relatives.
