Yeah, it makes no sense to me. A bit hard to change at this point, though, you'd have to have two FY2015. I can't imagine what a headache that would be for the business types.

I looking forward to the Maxwell 980 and I hope some of you guys who said you think the new GTX 980 is going to be around 25%-35% faster than the 780Ti turn out to be correct! If the price is $600.00 or under I am pretty sure I will purchase one. The 256 bit is kind of a let down (imo) but I just do not see myself going for a 4k monitor or multi monitor gaming, so np. I been thinking about a OL or Korean 1440p IPS (which I know the 290 will be kind of weak/FPS imo) and sell my LG IPS, or also thinking maybe keep my LG IPS and get a gaming monitor like the new BQ hybrid gaming monitor 100/120/144. w/ G-sync coming out later this year and sell my Samsung TN monitor, decisions decisions. So waiting to see how this GTX 980 performs and then make a decision on a possible monitor purchase per above.

I know it's too early to say, but does anyone have any thoughts on how the 970 will stack up against the later released 960? I'm still on a 560ti and have been waiting....patiently. I usually buy mid-level cards but I'm not sure how much more patient I can be.

For me, it'll probably come down to price point of the 970. If it's around $350 it might be a day 1 purchase but anything over that and I'll probably wait for the 960s specs.

I been waiting for an upgrade for my 7870 for a long time, the 960 will be a nice replacement if it only requires 1-6pin power connector.

Since GTX 960 is launching later in October, it could be based on GM206 instead of GM204.
Or it could be a GM204 with many SMM/cores disabled.

GTX 960 will either way probably be a 192bit bus (GM206 native 192bit, or GM204 with mem bus disabled) while both GTX 970 and 980 will be 256bit. So that is something to think about

Ram wise are any of the new gfx cards likely to have greater than 6gb of ram and more cuda cores that a standard Titan?

Do you know if the desktop 900 series is going to be a mix of Kepler and Maxwell or exclusive to Maxwell? It'd be nice to see more than just GM204 and GM107, even if it's not GM200/210.

You can only find GM200 and GM204 posted around.
Semiaccurate said 4 SKUs will be using GM204. Strong chances that GTX 960, GTX 970 and GTX 980 will use that chip. Plus GTX 990 (dual GM204 ).

GM200 is said to arrive before the year have past, but thats a 50/50.

I think GM206 is planned for early 2015 with GTX 900 cards.

Their Q2 2015 ended last July? Really??

nVidia doesnt have to state anything, TSMC does not have a 20nm process that will work for large die GPU's. Its an SoC only process for the time being. GF has also stated that they do not have a 20nm HP process.

So, these three chips WILL NOT BE 20nm.

Interesting, in AMD's last con call, they stated that they would have 20nm APUs and GPUs in 2015 (didn't say when, so it could easily be 2H15).

Well, by "20 nm" they probably mean TSMC's 20FF/"16 nm". That should be doable for release sometime in 2015, although with the transistor costs I wouldn't expect much from it other than a power consumption drop; although AMD could certainly use that.

If nVidia does call it the 9xx series, I think that is good evidence that they won't refresh at this level until 2016 and Pascal, because they could start with a new naming scheme with the new arch. Could still release a Big Maxwell on 20FF at some point.

I feel the need to point out that it nowhere close to an actual confirmation.
Indeed.

Really hope that is not the case, although nvidia is known for idiotic naming schemes..
Using 8xx would also make sense in terms of future chipsets, 9xx would be the speed bump like with previous generations and 1xxx would be the 'new' chip. (pascal)

They never specified what products would be 20nm did they?

“We (AMD) will be shipping products in 20 nanometre next year and as we move forward obviously a FinFET is also important”.

One of the video casts strongly suggested we would be getting another launch on September 2nd in addition to the AMD 285 cards. Its either the new Nvidia GPUs or the Intel Haswell-E.

Haswell-E is launching then. Nvidia might be trying to capitalize on that launch if they can sync up the timeline...

When do you think the large 20nm one going to be released? 1st half of 2015 or 2nd half? I'm looking forward to the Titan II if one is released.

There's every reason to believe that nVidia is avoiding TSMC 20 planar. The earliest they could do 20FF/16 nm would be the middle of the year.
