I believe they are referring to the press releases/reports discussing the limited availability and readiness of TSMC's 20nm process for GPUs for a September launch. That appears to be the consensus.

I am not. I am waiting for GM200 or faster. Personally, I would rather NV wait 6 more months to launch 880 on 20nm with 30% more performance rather than on September on 28nm. Besides Witcher 3, there is no game coming out this year that I would upgrade for anyway.

Witcher 3 is 2015...

What I'd like to know is, will the 800 Series support HDMI 2.0?

We need it for the larger displays that don't have a DisplayPort.

Would be nice to get everyone on the same page so we can have proper 4k support.

Nvidia probably feels it already is HDMI 2.0 compliant, as current nvidia cards can support 4k60 @ 4:2:0, which is all you really need to be video compliant for HDMI 2.0. Whether they will support 4:2:2 or 4:4:4, I think they won't bother until at least 2H 2015 when 3rd gen Maxwell rolls out. The cost of faster HDMI 2.0 chips won't be free and I'm sure they will prefer to be one node below to save some bucks on transistor cost.

I'm not interested in 4k @ 30, so that's a no-go for me. Guess we'll have to see who wants that market (albeit a small market right now, but won't stay that way for long). Most who want 4k won't want it @ 30.

The answer is most likely no. Broadwell for example doesnt support HDMI 2.0 either. Or as Intel said, it came too late to implement. But again we could be positively surprised.

There will be no 20nm GPUs from nVidia this year. They have been very clear about it in their conference calls.

Maxwell v2 is 28nm.

Half Life 3!!!!!

Are you kidding? If Valve released HL3 with a modern physics engine and graphics exceeding Crysis 3, I'd upgrade to dual GM200s for something like that.

Some new pics for Witcher 3 got released and some of them don't look anywhere near as impressive as previous shots. Maybe these are from the PS5/XB1 versions. You can see the polygons in areas where tessellation should have been clearly used.

New gameplay video

Witched 3 is really one of those games which many people would consider upgrading for with 870/880s. I hope it lives up to the hype gameplay and graphics wise.

Source? Because it was AMD that categorically ruled out 20nm this year in conference calls.

Wait, you mean the one where Nvidia was talking Q3 2015? You do realize Nvidia's Q2 2015 ended this past July, yes?

Nvidia has said nothing, nothing whatsoever, about 28nm vs 20nm for the 800 series. Nothing. Anything else is speculation and rumor, period.

Do you think they had to downgrade the graphics for the Witcher 3 to make it meet a budget or deadlines?

Witcher 2 was a PC fist/consoles later title and I expect the same of Witcher 3. Now the release of W3 might be simultaneous for PCs and consoles this time around but I fully expect them to focus on the PC version first. That's what they've always done at CDPR.

BTW, of all DX9 games.....Witcher 2 still looks absolutely fantastic to this day; it was quite a feat in terms of graphics. Looks better than most DX11 games, actually. So with the addition of DX11 and (likely) PC first development, I expect good things. I do not expect CDPR to downgrade the PC version to make it identical to consoles. It isn't their way. Things could change, of course...but of the devs that I "trust" to deliver the goods, CDPR ranks up there fairly high.

That's encouraging to hear. I guess I'm growing cynical. There have been too many games over the years that have been over-hyped that under-delivered.

I suppose we'll know on launch day.

honestly I have never thought Witcher 2 looked all that great. in fact I was really disappointed when I fired up the game for the first time and had to go back and check my settings.

Hey Toyota, you seem very particular from reading your past posts (monitors/games/IQ/settings/details/etc) so if/when you get Witcher 3 if could or have the time, pm me your opinion on the game & IQ. I'd be seriously interested in hearing your opinion on this game once you get it/play it.

TIA

Saw this at OCN:

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18620315

Gibbo at overclockers.uk posted that "The 780 won't be available for much longer". OC UK are doing some sales to clear out existing stock (some being the operative word), all 700 series cards are probably EOL i'm guessing. Newegg has a couple of 780ti's at around 590$.

Half Life 3 confirmed I guess

Their Q2 2015 ended last July? Really??

nVidia doesnt have to state anything, TSMC does not have a 20nm process that will work for large die GPU's. Its an SoC only process for the time being. GF has also stated that they do not have a 20nm HP process.

So, these three chips WILL NOT BE 20nm.

Fiscal years aren't calendar years. But I don't feel the 880 will be 20nm. I do think the GM200 will, though.

I know fiscal years are different from calendar years. But I have never seen (until now) a company that has their fiscal year running a fully year ahead of the calendar year.
