you're right... there's nothing wrong with going around and abusing or mutilating animals around the neighborhood. it's not inhumane whatsoever and isn't a red flag for future violent or homocidal behavoir. no big deal... slap on the wrist.

I wouldn't have put it quite so bluntly as you did TallBill, but I do think that people get their panties in a bunch far more for a story involving animal abuse than they do over the massacre of people like is happening in the Congo right now.

I find it very hard to imagine why people get so upset over a kitten story and don't even think about people being killed.

The kitten story illustrates why nobody cares about people being killed: People suck.

But the outrage over the kitten story (including most of the posts here) indicate the exact opposite. According to these posts, people don't suck and are extremely concerned with animal cruelty.

But strangely, there isn't the same outrage shown regarding cruelty to humans stories.

You don't read the posts here about adults harming/torturing children/humans do you?

Children that abuse animals often become adults who kill other people. I have enough of a problem w/ abusing animals, but if the statistics are strong enough, I don't see why we couldn't pass laws unequivocally allowing the use of force in defense of an animal, and authorizing deadly force if the animal is under the threat of imminent bodily harm or death -- basically affirmative defenses just like defense of person statutes.

Then again, pets are property, and you can use force to some degree dependent on the circumstances to defend property. Lethal force is rarely allowed, though, and usually only in defense of real property. Still, someone would've been justified in knocking these assholes out, just wish someone had.

i remember awhile back watching a vid on crazyshit.com of a dog getting hit over the head with a skateboard, and reading the hundreds and hundreds of comments made by viewers, who were so outraged. yet these same people used to laugh when peope had their heads cut off or were burned alive.

if everyone is so opposed to animal cruelty we should all become vegetarian

livestock generally have a very poor quality of life, and die pretty horrible deaths
